  • Remy Bumppo Presents the Chicago Premiere of Tom Stoppard's Award-Winning Comedy Heroes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Stephanie Kulke / Ph: 773-244-8119 August 31, 2009 [email protected] REMY BUMPPO PRESENTS THE CHICAGO PREMIERE OF TOM STOPPARD’S AWARD-WINNING COMEDY HEROES CHICAGO – Remy Bumppo Theatre Company presents the Chicago premiere of Heroes, winner of the 2006 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, written by Gerard Sibleyras and translated by Tom Stoppard. Heroes runs Oct. 14 through Nov. 29 in the Downstairs Mainstage of the Greenhouse Theater at 2257 N. Lincoln Avenue. Preview performances begin Thursday, Oct. 14 with opening night Sunday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Heroes cast features guest artist Mike Nussbaum making his Remy Bumppo debut, Artistic Associate David Darlow and guest artist Roderick Peeples. Heroes is directed by Remy Bumppo Artistic Director James Bohnen, with set design by Tim Morrison, costume design by Samantha C. Jones, lighting design by Rich Norwood, sound design by Jason Knox and properties design by Nick Heggestad. "I say we go...up that hill, where the poplars are. There where the wind blows...it's not a bad halfway house between Indochina and a picnic." - Heroes It's 1959 and Philippe, Gustave and Henri, three veterans from WWI keep each other company on the back terrace of a retired soldiers' home. Through a series of witty scenes, the men goad one another into new adventures. The men's cantankerous camaraderie becomes strained as they plot an expedition to Indochina, or at least as far as the poplar trees on the distant hill. Heroes is a funny and bittersweet play about memory and "not going gently into that good night." The 2009-2010 Season is made possible by Prince Charitable Trusts, The Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, The Illinois Arts Council and by a City Arts Program 3 grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

  • We Finally See Rockwell, Williams in FX's First 'Fosse/Verdon' Trailer
We Finally See Rockwell, Williams in FX's First 'Fosse/Verdon' Trailer 02.25.2019 FX's upcoming eight-episode limited series, Fosse/Verdon, unpacks the turbulent five-decade relationship of legendary Hollywood director and choreographer, Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell), and his wife, muse and star in her own right, Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams). Their relationship starts as a director-star cliche and then evolves into something much more complicated as Fosse fuels his manic creativity with drugs, alcohol and sex. Verdon, meanwhile, reaches the height of her career as a Broadway triple threat and multiple Tony winner but watches Fosse stay in the spotlight as she fades into age and obscurity. Still, she remains his unrecognized collaborator even as their marriage unravels. Eventually, Fosse forges a connection with Ann Reinking (Margaret Qualley), an up-and-coming Broadway dancer who has all the talent and tenacity of a young Verdon. She hopes to follow in Verdon's footsteps, but may not have the stomach to put up with everything Fosse demands. Surrounding the couple are a coterie of fellow artists, friends, collaborators, and rivals: playwright and screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky (Norbert Leo Butz); former modern dancer- turned-homemaker Joan Simon (Aya Cash); Joan's husband, playwright Neil Simon (Nate Corddry); and theater producer and director Hal Prince (Evan Handler). The series is executive produced by Rockwell, Williams, Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Fields and George Stelzner. Levenson wrote the premiere episode, which is directed by Kail. Nicole Fosse, daughter of the couple, serves as key creative consultant, co-executive producer and keeper of the Verdon Fosse legacy.

In opera, music is the primary element, supported by the set and costumes. The set and costumes provide a visual interpretation of the music. In film, music and sound play a supporting role. Music and sound create an ambiance in films that aid in telling the story. I consider the musical to be an equal and reciprocal balance of music and vision. More importantly, a successful musical is defined by its plot, music, and visual elements, and how well they are integrated. Observing the transformation of the musical and analyzing many different genres of concert music, I realize that each new concept of transformation always blends traditional and contemporary elements, no matter how advanced the concept is or was at the time. Through my analysis of three musicals, I shed more light on where this ii transformation may be heading and what tradition may be replaced by a new concept, and vice versa.

As a teen she was the National Powder Puff Motorcross Champion. She attended college at the University of Denver, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in physical education and played sports for the university, most notably Wilson as a star on the women’s basketball team. After college Webber worked briefly as a P.E. teacher, Cruz at but always felt she had some bigger contribu- tion to make. Soon after, she discovered that Roosevelt page 7 something and over the next two decades Web- ber has made an impressive name for herself in Chicago with her landscaping business. Jennie Rule met Christy Webber eight years ago at Girlbar on North Halsted. That night, Rule recalls coming down the stairs and being first captivated by Webber’s white shoes. At first glance she thought, “Thank God; finally a lesbian with some fashion sense!” At that point in her life, Rule had been with a couple of women, but was looking to go back to men. In the months to come, Webber would change all that.

  • Musicals Go Undiscovered and Never Get the Productions They Deserve
SPRING 2020 PITCH BOOK At The Producer’s Perspective, we are on a mission to help 5000 shows get produced by 2025 and have curated this book of new work for your consideration. All too often, exciting new plays and musicals go undiscovered and never get the productions they deserve. So we wanted to provide an opportunity for theaters, producers, and organizations like yours to access information on new material just waiting to be discovered. The Pitch Book features over 100 new plays and musicals from creators across the country and provides you with a tagline and succinct pitch, as well as essential show and collaborator information for each project. We encourage you to peruse the pitches in this book and if you find a project that appeals to you, please feel free to reach out to the show directly or let us know by emailing [email protected]!
