7:30 THU 30 PHILADELPHIA FSSE 7:30 Travis Schlenk President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Travis Schlenk is in his third season leading the Hawks’ Basketball Operations, and was recently promoted to President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. Since his hiring on May 25, 2017, the Hawks have continued to build on their stated goals of adding young talent and positioning the team for the future by accumulating assets, while maintaining both salary cap and roster flexibility. Within a two-year period immediately following Schlenk’s arrival, the club has utilized several of those assets to help assemble a young core of players age 22-or-younger, that includes John Collins (drafted 19th overall in 2017 and Second Team All-Rookie in 2018), Trae Young (fifth overall pick in 2018 and unanimous First Team All- Rookie last season), Kevin Huerter (drafted with the 19th pick in 2018 and Second Team All-Rookie last season), De’Andre Hunter (the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft), Cam Reddish (drafted by the Hawks at No. 10 in 2019) and Bruno Fernando (obtained after being selected 34th overall in 2019). Prior to last season, in May of 2018, Schlenk tabbed highly-regarded NBA Assistant Coach Lloyd Pierce as the team’s new Head Coach to lead and develop the young roster.

    THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHREYER HONORS COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS REVISITING THE SUPERSTAR EXTERNALITY: LEBRON’S ‘DECISION’ AND THE EFFECT OF HOME MARKET SIZE ON EXTERNAL VALUE ANDREW DAVID BRYANT SPRING 2013 A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for baccalaureate degrees in Mathematics and Economics with honors in Economics Reviewed and approved* by the following: Edward Coulson Professor of Economics Thesis Supervisor David Shapiro Professor of Economics Honors Adviser * Signatures are on file in the Schreyer Honors College. i ABSTRACT The movement of superstar players in the National Basketball Association from small- market teams to big-market teams has become a prominent issue. This was evident during the recent lockout, which resulted in new league policies designed to hinder this flow of talent. The most notable example of this superstar migration was LeBron James’ move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat. There has been much discussion about the impact on the two franchises directly involved in this transaction. However, the indirect impact on the other 28 teams in the league has not been discussed much. This paper attempts to examine this impact by analyzing the effect that home market size has on the superstar externality that Hausman & Leonard discovered in their 1997 paper. A road attendance model is constructed for the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons to compare LeBron’s “superstar effect” in Cleveland versus his effect in Miami. An increase of almost 15 percent was discovered in the LeBron superstar variable, suggesting that the move to a bigger market positively affected LeBron’s fan appeal.

MN 55455 (612) 625-4090 Fax 625-0359 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 3, 1997 KRAFT NAMED WCHA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK University of Minnesota junior wing Ryan Kraft has been named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week his efforts in last weekend's league sweep over Wisconsin giving the Golden Gophers a share of the 1996-97 WCHA Championship. Kraft, who was honored for a league-high third time this season as WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, helped Minnesota stake a claim to the title with a 4-3 win on Friday followed by a 7-3 win Saturday. It marks the 1Oth time overall in 1996-97 that a Golden Gopher hockey student­ athlete has been cited for league player of the week honors. Kraft, from Moorhead. Minn., scored five goals last weekend including a third-period hat trick as part of a six-goal frame in Saturday's title-clinching win. Kraft's six-point weekend brings his season totals to 24-18--42 on the season. He has totals of 10-7--17 in the team's last six home games, and finished fifth in the league in scoring. Kraft's final goal Saturday gives him 50 career goals and 125 career points in 121 games at the U of M, and the hat trick Saturday was the fourth of his career. Two of Kraft's career hat tricks have come agrunst the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves, this weekend's WCHA First Round playoff opponent at Mariucci Arena.
