I am overwhelmed by the support and generosity of this year’s many sponsors, gourmet gallery vendors and our wonderful friends and volunteers that have made this event possible. Your participation in our 6th annual Invitational enables us to help hundreds of more people this year in the Charlotte community have access to care for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. When I played in HeartBright’s first tournament in 2010 I knew very little about this fantastic organization. After meeting Claire, and hearing her amazing story, I knew that I needed to get involved in some way. Since then I have jumped in and volunteered by running HeartBright’s P21 mentoring program which helps children in the Charlotte area. This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve also been able to help by being more involved with the tournament from every aspect of early planning to the details on the day of the event. It’s amazing what this team has been able to organize so that you can have fun and enjoy today’s tournament. Thank you for joining us!

Nate Clements NFL cornerback for 11 seasons. Played for the Bills, 49ers, and Bengals. Played college football at Ohio State University. He was a Pro Bowler in 2004.

Dick Conn NFL defensive back for 6 seasons. Played for the Steelers in Super Bowl IX and the Patriots for 5 seasons. He played at Georgia and was selected to Coach Dooley's All Decade Team for the 70's.

Phil Crosby

NFL fullback for 4 seasons. Played for the Bills and the Chargers. Played college football at the University of Tennessee where he won the 1998 National Championship and 2 SEC Championships.

London Fletcher

NFL linebacker for 16 seasons. Played for the Rams, Bills, and Redskins. 4-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Champion. One of only four players to play in 250 consecutive games.

Eric “Sleepy” Floyd

NBA guard for 13 seasons. Played for the Nets, Warriors, Rockets, and Spurs. Selected to the 1987 NBA All-Star game and was on the 1982 NCAA All-American First Team. Played basketball at Georgetown.

Charlotte NHRA Top Fuel Drag Racer. 4 IHRA Top Fuel World Championships. 30 national event wins. 2nd driver to exceed 300 MPH. Founded BRAKES in 2008 and provided 15,000 youths safe driving instruction.

Steven Israel

Played in the NFL for ten years with the Rams, 49ers, Patriots and the Saints. NFL Analyst for Fox 46 and a successful Wealth Management Adviser. Graduated from University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Economics.

Brandi Jackson

Played golf at Furman then professionally for 8 years on the LPGA and Symetra Tours, playing in 3 US Womens’ Opens. She runs her own recruiting, consulting and coaching business for junior golfers.

Victor Jones NFL linebacker. Attended Va. Tech from 1984-1988, and continued his dream of playing in the NFL after he was drafted by the Buccaneers. One year later, he joined the Lions where he spent 6 additional years.

Andrew Jordan NFL tight end for 8 seasons for the Vikings, Buccaneers and Eagles. Played college football at Western Carolina and was named Head Coach at West Charlotte High in January of 2015.

Craig Keith

NFL tight end for 3 seasons. Played with the Steelers and Jaguars. He played college football at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Wayne Kinley

Drafted by the Mariners straight out of High School in the early 80s. Played two years before his career was cut short by a shoulder injury.

Brevin Knight

NBA point guard for 12 seasons. Played for the Cavaliers, Hawks, Grizzlies, Suns, Wizards, Bucks, Bobcats and Clippers. Drafted in the 1997 NBA draft (16th overall out of Stanford).

Robert Mackey III Former NFL linebacker for the Texans. Founded the Lydia Smith Sickle Cell Foundation in honor of his mother, who has been living with sickle cell after being given 7 years to live in 1994. It provides direct care access to healthcare as well as community outreach. Branford Marsalis NEA Jazz Master and Grammy Award®-winning saxophonist. Leader of one of the finest jazz quartets and frequent soloist with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic.

David Martin

NFL tight end for 10 years. Played for the Packers, Dolphins and Bills. Martin played College football at University of Tennessee.

Ruvell Martin

NFL wide receiver for 7 seasons. Played for the Rams, Bills, Seahawks, and Packers. He played college football at Saginaw Valley State.

Tim McKyer

NFL cornerback for 12 years. Played for the 49ers, Dolphins, Falcons, Lions, Steelers, Panthers and Broncos. Won three Super bowls. Played college football for UT Arlington.

NFL linebacker for 9 seasons. Played for Giants and Vikings. Played football for South Carolina. Host of all sports talk shows on Watch Fox Columbia.

Walter Morgan

Played on PGA Champions Tour for 14yrs. Winning 3 tournaments and other events. Has received many Awards, Citations and Proclamations, including the "State of North Carolina The Order of the Long Leaf Pine".

Muhsin Muhammad

NFL wide receiver for 14 seasons mostly with the Panthers. He was a pro bowler twice and is the Panthers 2nd all-time leading receiver.

Jamar Nesbit

NFL guard for 11 seasons. Played with the Panthers, Jaguars and Saints. Won a Super bowl XLIV with the Saints. Played football at the University of South Carolina.

Steve Patton

Gardner Webb head coach for 14 years winning Big South Coach of the Year twice. Led Charlotte Rage to first playoff appearance. All winning records with Mars Hill, North Greenville.

Carl Pickens NFL wide receiver for 9 seasons. Played for the Bengals and the Titans. He was a Pro Bowler twice and the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1992.

Chuck Ramsey NFL punter for 8 seasons. Played for the Jets. Played football at Wake Forest. He was born in Rock Hill South Carolina.

Jake Robbins

MLB pitcher with Indians and played for Charlotte Knights. Went to Myers Park High School and owns a pitching school (Perfect Pitch) in Matthews helping over 500 kids continue their dream.

Patrick Sapp

Played football at Clemson. Second round draft pick (50th overall) of the Chargers. He helped lead the Cardinals to its first play-off win in 15 years. Director of major gifts at Clemson.

Mike Scurlock

NFL defensive back for 5 seasons with Rams and Panthers. Played football at Arizona University. Currently a candidate for the 2016 Election for the Sheriff's Office of the York County Sheriff's Office.

Rod Smart

NFL running back & return specialist, played 6 NFL Seasons for the Eagles and Panthers. Played college football at Western Kentucky.

Lance Smith

NFL offensive lineman for 12 seasons. Played for the Cardinals and the Giants. He played college football at Louisiana State University.

Mike Solarte

Sports Director for Time Warner Cable News, arrived in Charlotte in 2002, but has lived in North Carolina since 1995, working in Raleigh in both radio and TV.

Terry Taylor

Played college football at Southern Illinois and drafted in 1984 in the first round. Played 12 NFL seasons with the Seahawks, Lions, Browns, and the Falcons as a cornerback.

Quinton Teal

NFL defensive back for 4 seasons. Played for the Chargers and the Panthers. He played college football at Coastal Carolina.

Perry Tuttle

NFL wide receiver for 3 years. Played for the Bills and Buccaneers. Member of the Clemson Hall of Fame. Member of the 1981 Clemson National Championship team.

Al Wilson

NFL linebacker for 8 seasons. Played for the Broncos. 5 time pro bowler, 2 time All-pro. Played football at Tennessee and won a national championship in 1998. First team All-American.

Tony Womack

A 13 season MLB player known heroics in the 2001 World Series and with three consecutive Lou Brock Awards (stolen base titles)

Al Wood

NBA shooting guard for 6 seasons. Played for the Hawks, Clippers, Supersonics and Mavericks. Drafted 4th overall in the 1981 NBA draft out of the University of North Carolina.

Donnell Woolford

Two time football All-American at Clemson and later inducted into the University’s Hall of Fame. 1989 first round draft pick of the Bears. 1993 pro bowler who finished career with the Panthers.

Format The HeartBright Invitational is a five person Carolina Shamble with a Shotgun Start.

Carolina Shamble All members of the team tee off.

Team selects the best shot off the tee.

All players advance to that spot.

Each player plays their own ball until they hole out.

Record best score of the group.

At least 2 drives per player per team must be used.

Par is your friend.

No hunt rule in effect.

Course Rules While enjoying the invitational today, TPC Piper Glen asks that you keep the following in mind:

All lateral water hazards are marked with red stakes or red lines.

All water hazards are marked with yellow stakes or yellow lines.

Any and all ground under repair is marked with white lines or signs.
