MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options.     2001 Bronze Anvil – Category 13: Television PSA Nokia, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Situation: The world’s leading wireless phone manufacturer, Nokia, was in search of a young adult for a national, co-branded print advertising campaign that would continue to position the company as a “cool” organization and industry leader. Nokia tasked their PR agency, Ketchum, to research celebrities that fit Nokia’s target audience, which resulted in the decision to secure Jennifer Love Hewitt (JLH) – who tops the “Q” ratings. Nokia and Ketchum leveraged JLH’s contract to include a broadcast spot in the form of a public service announcement (PSA). Jennifer Love Hewitt was interested in incorporating a philanthropic angle to Nokia’s campaign due to her own personal experiences and belief in the importance of mentoring. The PSA was developed to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), an organization Nokia had a strong existing relationship with due to the perfect alignment with Nokia’s “Connecting People” slogan. Nokia felt so strongly about the messaging and the potential impact the PSA could make for the charity, they opted to use one paid advertising spot previously purchased for product advertising during the Teen Choice awards to launch the PSA. The following day, PSA packets with Jennifer Love Hewitt on the cover and a letter from BBBSA inside appeared at broadcast stations nationwide, ready for local distribution. Nokia's project of "connecting with someone who cares" was under way. This 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM year, we are delighted to be back at the Millennium Center in Winston-Salem and Millennium Center are celebrating the ability to hold the 101 West 5th Street event in person once again. Winston-Salem, NC Event Profile ABC of NC’s annual lunch invites the community to learn about ABC of NC while enjoying a delicious lunch in a reusable, take-home lunchbox and watching a presentation of first- hand stories from families who have benefited from the life-changing treatments at ABC of NC. Guests also hear from notable keynote speakers such as Dr. Maya Angelou (2013); Jason Katims, creator and executive producer of the hit television show Parenthood (2015); and Doug Flutie, football great and autism parent (2016) who share their experiences with autism. Past events have attracted over 500 attendees. This year, ABC of NC will expand the reach of the event by streaming the presentation and posting the recording to our website and social media. Your support is more critical than ever as our non-profit organization recovers from the effects of COVID-19. Keynote Speaker This year’s speaker, Dani Bowman, has worked professionally in the animation industry since age 14. She has produced nine award-winning animated short films, a PSA, and a music video. Dani utilizes her six passions of Animation, Autism Advocacy, Public Speaking, Illustration, Fine and Visual Arts, and Teaching to show young adults with autism and other disabilities that anything is possible and inspire them to leverage their unique abilities.
