Custom-tufted carpets are a part of the Tai Ping MATERIALS brand and reputation. During Tai Ping’s early Wool years in Hong Kong we developed the first Nylon motorized hand tufting gun. Over the decades, Steele our technicians and hand tufters have perfected Glosilk a wide range of new techniques and Lurex technologies that have enabled them to Field interpret our designers’ visions to create amazing three-dimensional effects. Teams of tufters work on different categories of designs. Only the most experienced artisans, with the highest level of training and experience, work on the most complex carpet patterns.

www.taipingcontract.com 10 Pass-Tufted 11

Like other custom-tufting, tufts are inserted into a MATERIALS backing material, but instead of using a single Wool needle to stitch one tuft at a time, the pass machine Steele has an 18-inch row of needles (usually about 8-10 Lurex needles per inch). The backing material is fed through the machine to create a long strip or pass of tufted carpet, and the passes are built up side-by- side.

One pass of plain cut-pile or plain loop-pile carpet is 18 inches wide. Pass-tufted carpets are produced through a semi-manual process that works on the same principles as broadloom machine tufting. Pass-tufted carpet is built up in strips or ‘passes’, so it is especially suited to long narrow rooms, corridors or irregular shaped rooms or spaces.

However, it is also a good choice for making very wide carpet, up to 19m in width. The pass machine can be programmed to leave spaces during the tufting process, so carpet can be made to fit around pillars or odd shapes; this reduces the need to join pieces of carpet together and minimizes yarn wastage.

www.taipingcontract.com High-end Wool Broadloom and Tiles

12 High-end Wool Broadloom carpet is produced by 13 machines that insert thousands of yarn tufts per minute into a mesh of non-woven primary backing. The machines are similar in size to a woven-jacquard loom, but they work like a domestic sewing machine. Across the width of the machine there are horizontal bars with hundreds of needles, MATERIALS each threaded with one end of yarn. The needles are Contract blended wool fed yarn from creels or from a beam located behind the machine.

Tai Ping’s high-end Broadloom carpet is a luxury product that offers clients a reliable level of durability and good acoustic insulation.

High-end Broadloom carpet can be cut-pile, loop-pile or a mixture of the two, but design options and color options are more limited than with woven or hand- tufted carpet.

Tai Ping's High-end Broadloom can be cut as carpet tiles. This is ideal for replacing carpet in occupied office spaces, as it is easy to transport and install.

Carpet tiles can be uplifted to access underfloor cabling or technology or to replace severely stained or damaged tiles. Tai Ping's wool carpet tile products have an attached cushion backing so there is no need to purchase underlay.
