JULY 2021 Message from the Director of Golf
JULY 2021 Message from the Director of Golf Rick Price, PGA This time of the year, hydration is extremely important during the summer heat. Let’s also be prepared for thunderstorms, flash floods, and lightning. It’s official “Monsoon Season” in Southern Arizona, which means we need to be careful. Be sure to follow the following suggestions to keep yourself safe while heading out on the course during the monsoon season. Check the forecast and check it often. Download a reliable radar app, seek shelter immediately if you’re not able to get off the golf course in time. Don’t worry if you can’t finish your round; we are happy to give you a rain check “credit” to complete your round another time. The important thing is to be safe and use your best judgment when the weather is questionable. Suggestions for Improving Pace of Play
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVING PACE OF PLAY 1 SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVING PACE OF PLAY ON THE TEE Be early for your tee time. Proper pace of play begins with teeing off at the appointed time. Allow time for unloading your equipment, putting on your golf shoes, any desired practice or warm-up, purchasing any refreshments and driving your cart to the first tee. Play the right course for your ability level: Choose a set of tees with a rating of your handicap index. Or just tee it forward (Apply Legends Rule.) Establish a position on the course. If your round begins on a par 4, wait until the group ahead of you has gotten to the green before teeing off. If your round begins on a par 5, wait until the group ahead of you has hit their second shot and moved toward the green. On subsequent holes when waiting on the tee for the group in front to clear the fairway, don't be so strict about order of play. Let the short hitter - who can't reach the group ahead anyway - go ahead and hit. PLAY READY GOLF— Pick your line of play once and trust yourself. Hit when ready and safe regardless of who has the honors. Try to take no more than one practice swing, then set up to the ball and play your shot. Be ready to hit when it is your turn. Take 30 seconds, maximum, to hit your shot. Pay attention to your partners' drives. If they lose sight of the ball, you can help direct them to it and avoid any searching. -

Putting drills don’t require a lot of equipment. Putting drills don’t need to take a lot of time to be effective. Using a few golf balls, your putter, and some tees, I’ve put together 6 drills that will increase your confidence on the greens and decrease your overall scores. The process you'll learn from this ebook will help guide your practice on the putting green. It's fun but challenging, too. One of the things I observe on a day-to-day basis, is players on the putting green, aimlessly rolling balls at holes with no purpose or goal. These simple drills are made to make your time spent on the putting green worthwhile, fun, and efficient. Whether you do one drill a day, or all six at once, these are guaranteed to move money from your playing partner’s pockets into yours, one putt at a time! “I enjoy the oohs! and aahs! from the gallery when I hit my drives. But I'm getting pretty tired of the awws! and uhhs! when I miss the putt.” - John Daly Drill 1 4 Corners 1 Ball, 4 Tees An easy start into your putting drills The Setup Using your putter to measure your distance about 3 feet from the hole, form a square, or four corners, where the tees are placed around the cup. -

Belmont Golf Course Maintenance Grounds Staff Job Description
Belmont Golf Course Maintenance and Grounds Staff Member First Tee of Greater Richmond is a youth development organization that uses the game of golf and its inherent values to shape the lives of young people from all walks of life. We are strengthening the character of the community by providing programs that build resilience in our youth, teach critical life skills, and provide caring adult supervision in a safe environment. Belmont Golf Course, designed by Tillinghast and modified by Donald Ross, was the original Hermitage Country Club from 1918-1977 and served as the host of the 1949 PGA Championship, won by Virginian Sam Snead. Other Tillinghast courses include Winged Foot, Baltusrol and Bethpage Black, which joins Belmont as the only other public courses in the country designed by Tillinghast to host a major championship. In January 2020, Henrico County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a proposal from First Tee of Greater Richmond that will transform the historic, yet underperforming, golf course into a community-focused, inclusive and affordable public golf facility for all ages. First Tee of Greater Richmond has two other golf courses in the area. The Tattersall Youth Development Center at First Tee Chesterfield Golf Course and The Elson Redmond Memorial Driving Range in downtown Richmond (which underwent a $1.2 million renovation in 2017 and is home to the VCU men’s golf team). While Henrico County will continue to own Belmont Golf Course, First Tee of Greater Richmond has signed a 20-year lease to manage the facility and will invest more than $4 million to reimagine the golfing experience to include a driving range, short-game practice area, short course, putting course and 12 championship-level holes that celebrate the legendary design of course designer A.W. -
