Central Government referendum limits have been changed to allow Shire District Councils to increase their Council tax by £5 Cost per week of some key services: Waste Collection and Recycling 78p Planning 56p Environmental Health 24p Housing Options 21p Spending on Capital Projects We have a four year capital programme; the total planned spend during the period is £4.3 million. Valley sides steepening in the upper reaches. • On the valley sides the underlying chalk, and free draining lime-rich soils predominately support arable cultivation, with some calcareous grassland and woodland on higher slopes. • Ancient and semi-natural woodland associated with higher slopes and dry valleys, creating a visual boundary of the area, including mixed, broadleaved and coniferous woodland, which possess significant biodiversity and ecological value. • The valley floor is characterised by rough grassland, permanent pasture and paddocks, and divided into smaller scale fields, by low hedges and wooden post and wire fencing. • The narrow and gently flowing Misbourne River, meanders down the valley, with occasional ponds often located near farmsteads or small villages. The river often runs unnoticeably through this lower landscape. • A string of hamlets and farmsteads exist along the valley floor, with nucleated rows of larger settlements focused along roads.     September 2019 RAMBLERS NEWS Amersham & District Newsletter Our New Website Peter H not only took over as Membership Secretary at the last AGM, he also took it upon himself to update our Group website and he has done a brilliant job — take a look. As well as all our walks and a summary of our Group it has other information such as our Group Holiday and previous Newsletters. It wasn’t an easy task as the software is somewhat out of date but he persevered and result is great. Well done Peter and thank you. Successful Path Checking Day The path checking day on 3rd August was a great success and proved to be very worthwhile. An enthusiastic team of 15 people in 7 groups checked 44 out of 82 paths in the Great Missenden Parish with 68 problems reported including signposts, gates and stiles. Reporting the problems and getting them fixed helps to keep the network of footpaths safe and clear for walking in our area. We are keen to build on this successful day, so if you have time to walk some of the paths in your area please volunteer for path checking by contacting Vince or John (details on back page of Programme). Where are Path Checkers needed? Path Checkers are needed in Chalfont St Peter, Chartridge, Little Chalfont, Seer Green and The Lee and assistant Path Checkers are needed in Amersham, Ashley Green, Chesham, Chesham Bois, Cholesbury, Little Missenden and Great Missenden. What do they check for? They check for and report any problems with signposts, waymarkers, gates and stiles, overgrowth/ undergrowth, barriers, crops, trees etc.
