Charles Darwin 14, 46980 Paterna, València, Spain; *Author for correspondence Received 26 June 2000; accepted in revised form 25 January 2002 Key words: Ampelodesmos mauritanica, Fire recurrence, Model, Resprouting, Simulation Abstract Dynamics of the coexisting Mediterranean species Pinus halepensis, Quercus coccifera, Erica multiflora, Ros- marinus offıcinalis, Cistus albidus, C. salviifolius and Ampelodesmos mauritanica, with contrasted life history traits have been studied under different fire scenarios, following two approaches: a) field survey in areas with three different fire histories (unburned for the last 31 years, once burned in 1982, and twice burned in 1982 and 1994), and b) simulations with different fire recurrence using the FATE vegetation model. We compared ob- served abundance in the field survey to simulation outputs obtained from fire scenarios that mimicked field fire histories. Substantial mismatching did not occur between field survey and simulations. Higher fire recurrences were associated with an increase in the resprouting Ampelodesmos grass, together with a decrease in Pinus abun- dance. Resprouting shrubs did not show contrasting changes, but trends of increase in Quercus and decrease in Erica were observed. The seeders Rosmarinus and Cistus achieved maximum abundance at intermediate fire re- currence. We also performed ten 200 year simulations of increasing fire recurrence with average times between fires of 100, 40, 20, 10, and 5 years. -

Móra D'ebre Castillo De Móra
432 / MÓRA D’EBRE MÓRA D’EBRE La villa de Móra d’Ebre, cabeza municipal y capital de la comarca de la Ribera d’Ebre, se asienta en el margen derecho del río Ebro, en el lugar de la cubeta o depresión de Móra. Dista 60 km de la capital provincial, Tarragona, que se recorren a través de la T-11 y la N-420 que conduce hasta Gandesa. Limita al Norte con Ascó, al Este con Móra la Nova, al Sur con Tivissa, Benissanet y Corbera d’Ebre, y al Oeste con la Fatarella. La singularidad geográfica del lugar, en la llanura fluvial del Ebro, favoreció la existencia de asentamientos estables desde época ibérica. En este sentido, los restos localizados en torno al calvario, en las proximidades del castillo, son suficientes para suponer la existencia de unoppidum, ocupado como mínimo hasta la segunda mitad del siglo II o el siglo I a.C. Por otro lado, los vestigios de la villa romana de Els Emportells, situada cerca del río, en el camino de Les Sénies, indican la presencia de un asentamiento de época romana. Las referencias históricas acerca de la villa de Móra son escasas y remontan al siglo XII. Tras la reconquista, en el año 1153 Arbert de Castellvell tomó posesión de la villa, situada en los lími- tes del marquesado de Siurana. Años más tarde, en 1174, el rey Alfonso II el Casto y Guillem de Castellvell, firmaron un acuerdo en virtud del cualIldefonsus, Dei gracia rex Aragonensis, comes Barchi- nonensis et marchio Provincie entregaba a este último el castrum de Móra, junto con el castillo de Tivissa y las fortalezas de Garcia y Marçà. -

Memòria d’anàlisi de restes: Memorial de les Camposines Generalitat de Catalunya Departament de Justícia Direcció General de Memòria Democràtica PRESENTACIÓ Informe de retorn de les restes òssies estudiades al dipòsit del Memorial de les Camposines, La Fatarella (Terra Alta) D’acord amb el punt 2.2. del plec de prescripcions tècniques del contracte de serveis de localització, recuperació i anàlisi antropològica i genètica de restes òssies humanes de la Guerra Civil i la dictadura, la Generalitat de Catalunya ha realitzat, entre 2017 i 2019, els treballs d’estudi antropològic i d’anàlisi genètica en laboratori de les restes humanes no identificades que hi havia dipositades al Memorial de les Camposines. El resultat dels treballs realitzats queda recollit a continuació en l’Informe de l’estat dels estudis genètics sobre els materials dipositats al Memorial de Camposines (2019), elaborat per l’empresa Iltirta Arqueologia. A partir d’aquest informe i d’acord amb l’article 22.2 del Decret 111/2010, de 31 d’agost, pel qual es desenvolupa reglamentàriament la Llei 10/2009, de 30 de juny, sobre la localització i la identificació de les persones desaparegudes durant la Guerra Civil i la dictadura franquista, i la dignificació de les fosses comunes (DOGC núm. 5706), el Departament de Justícia, de la Generalitat de Catalunya retorna +4.200 restes òssies estudiades a l’espai del Memorial de les Camposines, habilitat com a dipòsit per a la custòdia d’aquestes restes òssies humanes no identificades, que equivalen a un nombre mínim de 166 individus localitzats a les Terres de l’Ebre (34 provinents de dipòsits anònims d’origen desconegut, 110 individus de recollides superficials i 22 individus recuperats en excavacions de fosses). -

Experiences that can be exchanged A successful approach for sustainable and integrated coastal management, through the establishment of a local Consortium which includes municipalities, county councils, and the Regional Departments of the Generalitat of Catalonia, to elaborate action plans and specific projects. This initiative is the implementation at the local level of all the European, national and regional ICZM regulations, promoting the co-ordination and co-operation with institutional actors, scientists and social associations. 4. Overview of the case The Consortium was created in 2006 with the aim to sustainably manage a coastal, marine and land area in the county of Garraf, following the European Recommendation on ICZM. It comprises the municipalities of Sitges, Sant Pere de Ribes, Vilanova i Cubelles; Garraf Regional Council and three departments of the Government of Catalonia: Environment and Housing, Agriculture, Food and Rural Action and Country Planning and Public Works. -

Determinants of Waste Generation Per Capita in Catalonia (North-Eastern Spain): the Role of Seasonal Population
European Journal of Sustainable Development (2016), 5, 3, 489-504 ISSN: 2239-5938 Doi: 10.14207/ejsd.2016.v5n3p489 Determinants of waste generation per capita in Catalonia (North-eastern Spain): the role of seasonal population Òscar Saladié1 Abstract Seasonal population is not taken into account in waste management policies and regional differences in waste generation per capita are magnified. Here I analyze the differences among the Catalan counties (North-eastern Spain) and I compare the results if seasonal population is added or not to the resident people. Waste generation per capita in tourist areas is overestimated and actually the differences among the counties are lower than those indicated in the official data. Only reliable data will allow determining the reasons of differences in waste generation per capita and stablishing more precise objectives in waste management policies. There is a positive correlation between municipal waste generation per capita and the services sector’s contribution to GDP, a negative correlation with the percentage of population over 64 and no correlation with income per capita. Finally, taking into account territorial factors, the lowest waste generation per capita corresponds to counties with very low population densities located in inland Catalonia. Introduction There are broad typologies of waste, all with varying behaviour related to environmental agents, potential evolution over time and impacts on environment and human health. The natural ecosystem’s capacity to receive and incorporate waste is limited, and exceeding it can become a serious environmental problem. Waste can be harmful to human health and animal and plant life and may also affect soil, ground water and air quality, including global warming and inadequate management can compromise the sustainability of our development.
