The Logan Library Annual Report 2012 Logan Library Annual Report 2012

Traditional library usage remained steady and constant in 2012 in gate count or attendance and overall circulation of materials. The number of programs offered by the library, attendance at these programs and the use of public meeting rooms by outside groups has continued to gradually increase.

The societal trend of more use of resources in electronic format definitely surfaced as the circulation of “e-content” sent the total number of circulated items for the library over the 1 million mark for the first time in the library’s history! Along these same lines, e- reader devices and laptop computers have been purchased and made available for patrons to check-out for in-library use.

Efforts to build a new library building facility were “rekindled” in 2012 through discussions between the library director Robert Shupe and Mayor Randy Watts, which led to the Mayor addressing the library board during its September meeting. The library and the board have begun to move cautiously and will look at revising floor plans and major design features for a new building that would be more cost effective than previous plans.

Development of the collection, in traditional print format, audio visual materials and online resources, has steadily and professionally occurred, while the fruits of these efforts are demonstrated by the high volume of items circulated and utilized by library patrons.

A second outdoor drop was purchased during the year and it and the existing book drop were placed in a new location that allows patrons to drive through and not have to get out of their cars in order to return materials. This enhancement has generated more positive comments and feedback from patrons than any other single topic in a very long time.

The Logan Library was recognized by the State Library Division with a “Quality Library” designation as part of the state-wide certification process. This is quite an honor as only eight other libraries in the state received this designation. An internal “Marketing Committee” was formed and has worked effectively to develop and implement a formal Marketing Plan. The library board approved this plan and it now guides all marketing and outreach efforts of the library.

A logo contest was held during the fall of 2012, which led to the library board accepting the submission made by Jami Strong as the new Logan Library logo. The board and staff members are very excited about the library beginning to use this new logo into the future!
