Published: Tuesday 26 January 2021 Early Day Motions tabled on Monday 25 January 2021 Early Day Motions (EDMs) are motions for which no days have been fixed. The number of signatories includes all members who have added their names in support of the Early Day Motion (EDM), including the Member in charge of the Motion. EDMs and added names are also published on the EDM database at www.parliament.uk/edm [R] Indicates that a relevant interest has been declared. New EDMs 1389 Support for British Gas workers Tabled: 25/01/21 Signatories: 1 Nadia Whittome That this House condemns the actions of British Gas in pursuing fire and re-hire tactics with loyal and hard-working staff; expresses support and solidarity with British Gas workers who have been forced to strike following British Gas pushing ahead with plans that have been rejected by 86 per cent of GMB members working as engineers; notes that the proposed changes will mean that a number of workers will be expected to work approximately 150 hours extra per year for no guarantee of extra pay; expresses regret that a once respected and trusted brand is doing damage to its reputation by pursuing fire and re-hire tactics; urges British Gas to recognise that the only way to end the disruption is to take fire and rehire pay cuts off the table; notes with alarm the growing number of employers who are making employees redundant before re-employing them on less-favourable terms and conditions; believes that these employers should instead be focused on supporting their employees through the covid-19 outbreak; and calls on the Government to take urgent action to stop the growing number of firms taking part in this unethical and unjust practice, for example by amending the Employment Rights Act 1996 to automatically categorise such redundancies as unfair dismissals.

One of my proudest achievements here has been the LGBT+ Conservatives Candidates’ Fund, which has supported so many people into parliament and raised tens of thousands of pounds. As the fund matures it is moving into a new governance structure, and I hope to play a role in that future. I am thrilled to be succeeded by Elena Bunbury. I know that she will bring new energy to the organisation, and I hope it will continue to thrive under her leadership. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey. In particular Emma Warman, Matthew Green and John Cope who have provided wise counsel as Deputy Chairman. To Sean Anstee who has transformed the finances of the organisation.

Issue 38 February 2014 Caroline Dinenage MP for Gosport, Lee-on-the-Solent, Stubbington and Hill Head Whilst we are lucky that the Gosport peninsula has survived the recent storms better than many, I was extremely proud to hear that Royal Navy sailors from HMS Sultan and HMS Collingwood spent time contributing to the vital flood relief effort in Berkshire this month. Young apprentices from the Defence Munitions Training Scheme have also been spreading their wings by taking part in the Brathay Apprentice Chal- lenge. I have my fingers crossed for their success in the competition! With Vince Cable MP at the Topping Out ceremony for the CEMAST skills centre Our area has a glowing reputation for providing fantastic training pro- grammes, and its repertoire will be further enhanced once Fareham College’s CEMAST Skills Centre at Daedalus opens. I was delighted to welcome Secre- tary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, Vince Cable MP, to the site for the official ‘topping out’ ceremony ahead of the centre’s September 2014 opening. My campaign to tackle adult literacy and numeracy problems ramped up a gear this month as the first inquiry session by the Business, Innovation & Skills Select Committee got underway in Westminster. A number of familiar faces gave evidence to the Committee, including the Principal of St Vincent College, Di Lloyd, and Linda Curtis from Gosport’s ‘We Can Read’. Two more inquiry sessions are coming up and you can watch my YouTube call for evidence here. With local literacy volunteers after the BIS Select Committee evidence session At the start of the month, the first meeting for my new All Party Par- liamentary Group for Maths and Numeracy took place.
