Level 1 & 2 Progression What can my Level 2 Course lead me to? A levels – mainly exams Level 3 Full Vocational, 1 subject. Apprenticeship (a job Mainly coursework with training) some assessments LEVEL 2 COURSE A mixed package of Job (paid work) subjects… Potential Courses – What’s the difference? Level 3 Vocational courses v A levels; Both level 3 vocational and A levels can be 1, 2 or 3 subjects (e.g. Law, Business & IT) however vocational can be just one subject (e.g. Health & Social Care) What’s the same? Both level 3 and carry UCAS points What are UCAS points? These are the grades universities and employers may ask you for at the end of your level 3 course How are they assessed? A levels – some coursework, mainly exams Vocational – mainly coursework, some assessments Where will these courses lead me? What progression is available? University? Job? General Entry Requirements • A levels – can ask for GCSE English, Maths and Science from grades 4 – 6 • Vocational subjects – can ask for GCSE English, Maths and Science at grade 4 and above • Check with the Colleges/providers you wish to apply to… • It is good practice to apply to more than one place Can you achieve the entry req’s for your course next year? When you apply to other Colleges… 1. Apply online or on paper if they allow 2. You are then usually invited to an (online) interview 3. The college will then make you a Conditional Offer 4. If you feel that you might not meet the offer, make a back up application to another college 5. When you get your results in August if you meet the offer you may accept it and enrol Other Colleges… The following Colleges also offer a variety of full time courses whilst some also offer apprenticeships; o Blackburn College o QEGS o Accrington & Rossendale College o Nelson & Colne College o Preston College o Cardinal Newman o Runshaw College o Burnley College (full time courses and apprenticeships) Use websites to research courses & check that you meet the entry requirements. Job/Apprenticeship Options Apprenticeships: You are trained to do a job and gain qualifications at the same time – usually 4 days a week at work and 1 day at college or a training centre. You get paid – at least £3.30 per hour. Average wage locally £106 per week. Apprenticeships are offered at 3 levels: - Intermediate (level 2) - Advanced (level 3) - Higher (level 4) They last between 1 and 4 years depending on the type of apprenticeship and the level.
