J9 J16 J23  C-USA MEN’S BASKETBALL TRIO NAMED TO LUTE OLSON WATCH LIST J30 Middle Tennessee senior F Reggie Upshaw Jr., Rice sophomore Marcus Evans and UAB junior F William Lee were each named to the Lute Olson Award Preseason Watch List on Nov. 7. The Lute F6 Olson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I player who has played at least two F13 season. The recipient of the award will be announced at the Collegeinsider.com awards banquet on F20 April 31 in Phoenix, Ariz., site of the men’s Division I Basketball Championships. F27 M6 Upshaw enters his senior year at Middle Tennessee with his name already in high regard in the Blue Raider record books. Upshaw surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career in the 2016 Conference USA Tournament and already ranks in the Top 10 in school history for career steals (111), blocks (79) C-USA FRESHMEN OF THE WEEK and minutes played (2,814) with a full season left to play. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native is also N14 on pace to enter the Top 10 at Middle Tennessee for career points, fi eld goals made, rebounds, free N21 throws made, double-doubles, games played and games started during his senior campaign. N18 D5 Evans was the 2016 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, as well as All-Conference First Team D12 and All-Defensive Team. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native ranked second in the league in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game, which also led all freshmen nationally. He also led C-USA in steals D19 (2.2 spg). His 685 points set a new school freshman record, is third on Rice’s single-season scoring D26 list and is the second-most in C-USA freshman history. Evans also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 2.8 J2 assists. His 21.4 points per game also set a C-USA freshman record. J9 J16 Lee enters his third season at UAB coming off a sophomore campaign that saw him rank eighth in J23 the NCAA with 2.9 blocked shots per game. The Plantersville, Alabama, native swatted 95 shots last season and registered at least one blocked shot in 32 of 33 games, including a career-high eight in J30 a win over Florida Atlantic. His performance helped UAB rank second in nation with 6.1 blocks per F6 game. Lee earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Year accolades to go along with his spot on the all- F13 defensive team. Additionally, Lee averaged 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and was named F20 to the All-Conference USA Third Team. F27 M6  FIVE RECOGNIZED BY LINDY’S SPORTS ANNUALS Lindy’s Sports Annuals included fi ve Conference USA men’s basketball student-athletes among its Top 25 player ratings. Three were listed among the top power forwards in the nation, with North Texas junior Jeremy Combs ranking 17th, while UAB’s William Lee and Louisiana Tech senior Erik McCree coming in at 19 and 20, respectively. Sophomore Marcus Evans of Rice was listed as the No. 18 as he will move into that role full-time this season. Lee’s UAB classmate Chris Cokley was ranked as the No. 20 center.
