PGA MEDIA GUIDE PGA Master Professionals The PGA Master Professional program was established in 1969 to recognize PGA members who make a significant effort to improve themselves as golf professionals and maintain the highest degree of excellence for themselves and their operations. With the launch of the PGA Certified Professional Program in 2004, the PGA Master Professional Program now originates from the PGA Certified Professional Program. Any PGA member who becomes certified has eight years of combined experience/education and is eligible to work toward Master Professional status by preparing a special project in one or more of the six designated career paths that meets the approval of examiners. The Master Professional applicant will present his or her project to a panel of examiners and answer questions on the project. PGA members who achieved Master Professional status under the former education program were “grandfathered” into the new program and are included below under the career path most closely associated with their thesis. Note: PGA members can achieve Master Professional status in more than one career path, which is why several members appear multiple times in the listing below.     USGA SE Regional Meeting Set at Pinehurst Resort By Patrick O’Brien and Chris Hartwiger Plans are set for the 2010 USGA SE Regional Conference at the Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst, NC for Tuesday, March 16th. This event will again be in partnership with the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association, Carolinas Golf Association, and the South Carolina Golf Association. The meeting would be enjoyable for anyone associated with golf, including superintendents, club managers, golf professionals, golf course owners, architects, Green and Golf Committees, and any golfer interested to learn more about the game of golf. Jackets are required for the men and registration fees and lunch are included in the $70 fee. Early reservations are suggested for anyone wishing to attend because this Regional Meeting historically sells out and reservations are limited to 250 attendees. Register on- line at the CGCSA website (http://www.cgcsa.org). Registration forms are also available from the Carolinas GCSA or USGA SE Region offices. These can be faxed or mailed to the Carolinas GCSA office to complete the registration process. Golf is available for attendees at Pinehurst Resort Course #8 on Monday, March 15th. Cost is $85 per person and includes tournament registration, green and cart fees, prizes, and reception. Registration is limited to 120 golfers and sign up can also be done at the Carolinas GCSA website. The meeting features many distinguished speakers including Mr. Ken Mangum, Director of Golf Courses and Grounds, Atlanta Athletic Club, who will discuss the grassing changes done at the Highlands Course for the upcoming 2011 PGA Championship. (July 6, 2021) – First Tee and PGA TOUR Champions announced today the 81 First Tee participants selected to play in the 2021 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting the First Tee. The event, in its 18th year, will bring teens from First Tee chapters to Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course for the PGA TOUR Champions tournament, Sept. 20-26. The annual event, hosted by the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, is televised internationally on Golf Channel. Throughout the week the teens apply the life and leadership skills learned from First Tee programs during the one-of-a-kind event where they are paired with a PGA TOUR Champions player and amateurs from the business world. Ranging in ages from 15 to 19, the First Tee participants compete for the Pro-Junior Team title. The teens represent 48 First Tee chapters from across the country and for the first time a participant from First Tee — Morocco will be in the field. Participants were selected by a national panel of judges based on their personal growth and life skills learned through First Tee’s programs, as well as their playing ability. The full junior field was revealed live on Golf Channel’s “Golf Today” including a video of PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan surprising Madelyn Campbell, Matthew French and Grace Richards from First Tee — North Florida.

With communities continually working to provide sufficient quantities of safe drinking water, it is understandable that water use for recreational purposes is heavily scrutinized. While golf courses contribute to communities by provide green space, positive economic impact and recreation for those who play the game, it also is true that golf course irrigation is a necessary component of their management.
