The SeaWolves are currently 5-0 in rubber matches. Erie evened the series last night when Sergio Alcantara drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 4-3. It was the first SeaWolves walk-off win of the year and first since July 13, 2018 when Jake Rogers drew a bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning to beat Altoona. Casey Mize makes his fourth start for the SeaWolves and is coming off a five-inning no-decision on May 10 at Altoona. Mize allowed his first two Double-A earned runs and surrendered a career-high seven hits in the start. He struck out four and walked one. Alfred Gutierrez goes for the Flying Squirrels, making his seventh start of the season. The 23-year old is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA across 22.2 innings and opponents are hitting .279 against him. Gutierrez took a loss in his last start on May 10 at Bowie, despite allowing one run in five innings while striking out four. The Venezuela native spent the first seven seasons of his pro career in the Detroit Tigers system after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2012. The right-hander was a Mid-Season All-Star for High-A Lakeland in 2018 and debuted for the SeaWolves on July 13, 2018. He made seven starts for Erie and compiled a 6.09 ERA in 34 innings. VS. It was Scivicque’s second home of the season and extended his hitting streak to five games. 8/20 A 8/21 A SeaWolves Starter Anthony Castro went four innings and allowed two runs, both in the top of the fourth in a no-decision effort. Chris Shaw led off with a double and with one out, Jonah Arenado doubled to put runners on second and third. Heath 8/26 H Quinn then tripled out to right-center, plating the two runs, giving Richmond a 2-1 lead. Derek Hill and Jose Azocar collided on the play, forcing Hill to exit with an apparent injury. 8/27 H 8/28 H After Erie reliever Ethan DeCaster tossed three shutout innings, the SeaWolves reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Azocar reached on a fielder’s choice and Kody Eaves earned a walk. Cam Gibson followed with a 8/29 H double off the right-center field wall to plate both baserunners, giving the SeaWolves a 3-2 lead. Trent Szkutnik (1-2), who received the win, allowed an unearned Richmond run in the eighth to tie the game. Jalen Miller reach on a Sergio Alcantara error and then later scored on a Gio Brusa double. Szkutnik then tossed a scoreless ninth to set the table for the walk-off win. The ninth began with an Eaves walk on pitch clock violation. Gibson doubled on a fly ball to straight away center that was lost in the lights by the Richmond fielder. The Squirrels elected to issue an intentional walk to Scivicuqe, loading the bases for Alcantara and setting up a force at every base. Alcantara worked a 3-1 count before drawing a free pass, scoring Eaves to give the SeaWolves their first walk-off win of the season. W: T. Szkutnik (1-2, 3.31 ERA) - L: R.
