  • New York Giants 2012 Season Recap 2012 New York Giants
NEW YORK GIANTS 2012 SEASON RECAP The 2012 Giants finished 9-7 and in second place in the NFC East. It was the eighth consecutive season in which the Giants finished .500 or better, their longest such streak since they played 10 seasons in a row without a losing record from 1954-63. The Giants finished with a winning record for the third consecutive season, the first time they had done that since 1988-90 (when they were 10-6, 12-4, 13-3). Despite extending those streaks, they did not earn a postseason berth. The Giants lost control of their playoff destiny with back-to-back late-season defeats in Atlanta and Baltimore. They routed Philadelphia in their finale, but soon learned they were eliminated when Chicago beat Detroit. The Giants compiled numerous impressive statistics in 2012. They scored 429 points, the second-highest total in franchise history; the 1963 Giants scored 448. The 2012 season was the fifth in the 88-year history of the franchise in which the Giants scored more than 400 points. The Giants scored a franchise- record 278 points at home, shattering the old mark of 248, set in 2007. In their last three home games – victories over Green Bay, New Orleans and Philadelphia – the Giants scored 38, 52 and 42 points. The 2012 team allowed an NFL-low 20 sacks. The Giants were fourth in the NFL in both takeaways (35, four more than they had in 2011) and turnover differential (plus-14, a significant improvement over 2011’s plus-7). The plus-14 was the Giants’ best turnover differential since they were plus-25 in 1997.

  • Bill Shockley
Professional Football Researchers Association www.profootballresearchers.com Bill Shockley This article was written by Budd Bailey. It was a very short field goal – we’d call it a “chip shot” many years later. Yet it was an event that will never be forgotten, at least to football historians who keep track of such relatively obscure moments. It also turned out to be the highlight of Bill Shockley’s football career, which guaranteed him a small slice of fame for as long as the New York Jets play football. William Albert Shockley Jr. was born on March 13, 1937 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The story of his family tree is a little confusing from a distance, at least when looking at Ancestry.com. Bill Sr. was born on Sept. 26, 1912, in either Port Deposit, Maryland, or in Avondale, Pennsylvania – accounts differ. The United States census has the whole family (there were three other children) living in Port Deposit by 1920. Mother Maria Jane Day was born in Port Deposit on July 30, 1915, and it looks as if Bill Sr. and Maria were married sometime in the early 1930s. In any event, the family eventually ended up in the area of West Chester, Pennsylvania. That town is located an hour west of Philadelphia and 35 minutes north of Wilmington. If you are old enough to remember Commodore computers in the mid-1980s, you should know that the home office was located in West Chester. The main building of 1 Professional Football Researchers Association www.profootballresearchers.com Commodore International in West Chester was taken over by the QVC shopping channel after Commodore’s bankruptcy in 1994.

  • "The Olympics Don't Take American Express"
“…..and the Olympics didn’t take American Express” Chapter One: How ‘Bout Those Cowboys I inherited a predisposition for pain from my father, Ron, a born and raised Buffalonian with a self- mutilating love for the Buffalo Bills. As a young boy, he kept scrap books of the All American Football Conference’s original Bills franchise. In the 1950s, when the AAFC became the National Football League and took only the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Colts with it, my father held out for his team. In 1959, when my father moved the family across the country to San Jose, California, Ralph Wilson restarted the franchise and brought Bills’ fans dreams to life. In 1960, during the Bills’ inaugural season, my father resumed his role as diehard fan, and I joined the ranks. It’s all my father’s fault. My father was the one who tapped his childhood buddy Larry Felser, a writer for the Buffalo Evening News, for tickets. My father was the one who took me to Frank Youell Field every year to watch the Bills play the Oakland Raiders, compliments of Larry. By the time I had celebrated Cookie Gilcrest’s yardage gains, cheered Joe Ferguson’s arm, marveled over a kid called Juice, adapted to Jim Kelly’s K-Gun offense, got shocked by Thurman Thomas’ receptions, felt the thrill of victory with Kemp and Golden Wheels Dubenion, and suffered the agony of defeat through four straight Super Bowls, I was a diehard Bills fan. Along with an entourage of up to 30 family and friends, I witnessed every Super Bowl loss.

  • 1967 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER the Following Players Comprise the 1967 Season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set
1967 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER The following players comprise the 1967 season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set. The regular starters at each position are listed first and should be used most frequently. Realistic use of the players below will generate statistical results remarkably similar to those from real life. IMPORTANT: When a Red "K" appears in the R-column as the result on any kind of running play from scrimmage or on any return, roll the dice again, refer to the K-column, and use the number there for the result. When a player has a "K" in his R-column, he can never be used for kicking or punting. If the symbol "F-K" or "F-P" appears on a players card, it means that you use the K or P column when he recovers a fumble. Players in bold are starters. If there is a difference between the player's card and the roster sheet, always use the card information. The number in ()s after the player name is the number of cards that the player has in this set. See below for a more detailed explanation of new symbols on the cards. • An Analysis of the American Outdoor Sport Facility: Developing an Ideal Type on the Evolution of Professional Baseball and Football Structures
AN ANALYSIS OF THE AMERICAN OUTDOOR SPORT FACILITY: DEVELOPING AN IDEAL TYPE ON THE EVOLUTION OF PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL AND FOOTBALL STRUCTURES DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Chad S. Seifried, B.S., M.Ed. * * * * * The Ohio State University 2005 Dissertation Committee: Approved by Professor Donna Pastore, Advisor Professor Melvin Adelman _________________________________ Professor Janet Fink Advisor College of Education Copyright by Chad Seifried 2005 ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to analyze the physical layout of the American baseball and football professional sport facility from 1850 to present and design an ideal-type appropriate for its evolution. Specifically, this study attempts to establish a logical expansion and adaptation of Bale’s Four-Stage Ideal-type on the Evolution of the Modern English Soccer Stadium appropriate for the history of professional baseball and football and that predicts future changes in American sport facilities. In essence, it is the author’s intention to provide a more coherent and comprehensive account of the evolving professional baseball and football sport facility and where it appears to be headed. This investigation concludes eight stages exist concerning the evolution of the professional baseball and football sport facility. Stages one through four primarily appeared before the beginning of the 20th century and existed as temporary structures which were small and cheaply built. Stages five and six materialize as the first permanent professional baseball and football facilities. Stage seven surfaces as a multi-purpose facility which attempted to accommodate both professional football and baseball equally.

  • An Aw Shucks Guy: Billy Shaw
THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 21, No. 4 (1999) An Aw Shucks Guy Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1999 By Joe Horrigan Guard Billy Shaw, once describcd as an "aw shucks sort of guy from Mississippi,” makes perfect strangers feel instantly comfortable with his polite disposition and broad smile. His friendly demeanor makes it difficult to believe that this gentle giant was one of pro football’s toughest competitors. However, when the game whistle blew and the ball was snapped, Shaw's "Mr. Nice Guy" nature metamorphosed to an aggressive, focused lineman, with one thing on his mind, winning football games. "When you played against Billy," remembers Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame linebacker, Bobby Bell, "you brought your lunch. He played every down to the maximum. He was relentless." A 6-2, 258-pound All-America lineman out of Georgia Tech, Shaw was the second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in the 1961 American Football League draft and a fourteenth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys of the then-rival National Football League. It wasn't that the Cowboys failed to recognize Shaw’s potential when they selected him in the late round. It was simply a calculated risk on their part. "I had already signed with Buftalo when the National Football League held their draft," Shaw explained. "In those days, people didn't know if the AFL would last the year, and I guess the Cowboys wanted to be able to claim me." Since the AFL did survive, the Cowboys never got their chance to claim the two-way Georgia Tech star, whose steadying influence on the Bills led the team to consecutive AFL titles in 1964 and 1965.
