Northern Ireland Assembly Vacancies in the Northern Ireland Assembly are lled by co-option. No co-options were made in 2021.

Police and crime commissioners There were no by-elections in 2021 for vacant police and crime commissioner posts. At the May 2021 election the oces of Cambridgeshire, Cleveland and Durham police and crime commissioner were vacant following the resignations of Jason Ablewhite (C) and Barry Coppinger (Lab) and the death of Ron Hogg (Lab) respectively. There was one by-election in 2021 a for vacant police and crime commissioner post.
