THE ENGLISH ROYAL THE WAR OF THE ROSES The war of the Roses was a succession war in that had been going on for years it was between the Royal and the Royal . King Richard III that represented the Yorks was defeated at the battle of Bosworth and killed thus ending the War of the Roses. NEW KING After the defeat of the Yorkist. Henry was crowned King Henry VII and married uniting the 2 houses into the House of Tudor. They had 2 sons Arthur Tudor and Henry Tudor. The king wanted an alliance with Spain so he married Arthur Tudor to Cathrine of Aragon but he died. HENRY VIII After the death of Arthur Tudor Henry was next in line to the throne. He was well educated and well beloved. In his last years Henry VII was fearing the nobility around him and he started throwing fines and taxes to the nobility even his own mother wasn’t spared. Just after Christmas1508 King Henry VII died and Henry Tudor was crowned King Henry VIII. King Henry VIII spent his wealth generously but the crowns council that controlled the royal seals refused to stamp the papers anymore. Cardinal Wolsey advised the king to make paper that didn’t require the royal seal he did this. The Roman Catholic pope asked him to join his side in his war with the England’s traditional enemy France he said yes. His wife was pregnant and defeated the Scottish in the north. But soon everything will go south. HENRY VIIIS 6 WIVES Henry VIII could not invade France because of shortage of money and his wife gave birth to a girl Mary when Henry VIII wanted a male heir. So he asked the pope for a divorce but he refused so Henry VIII broke England away from the Roman Catholic Church and founded the Anglican Protestant English Church and granted himself a divorce and married for a male heir but she gave birth to Elizebeth and Henry VIII beheaded Anne Boleyn and married and she gave birth to male Edward but died Henry VIII was very unhappy and mourned her and then got married to but Henry divorced her because of her appearance and married Cathrine Howard who he loved dearly but beheaded her when he found out that she had an affair with another and married who luckily lived past the bad in health king. EDWARD VI After the death of Henry VIII Edward his only son was crowned King Edward VI at age15. He died in 1553 and maintained the Anglican Protestant English Church. He said that the one to succeed him will be his cousin due to his eldest sister being Catholic. LADY JANE GREY Lady Jane Grey being named the successor to the throne, when King Edward VI died she was proclaimed queen in 1553 but 9 days later Mary Tudor raised a army and took the throne. Lady Jane Grey was later beheaded. MARY I Mary Tudor after taking the throne was crowned Queen Mary I in 1553. She married Philip of Spain and quickly brought back the Roman Catholic Church to England and is known as Bloody Mary for her prosecution of Protestants. She died in 1558 pronouncing her sister Elizebeth Tudor her successor. After being pronounced heir to the throne Elizabeth Tudor was crowned Queen Elizebeth I. She inherited a weak and bankrupt England. Her first step was to make the Anglican Protestant English Church the official religion and promote religious tolerance and then make the economy of England recover and made it a great power which was demonstrated in the naval battle against Spain and she overlooked colonisation in the new world but never married and give birth to a heir and died in 1603. So house came to an end.
