Plank Road Publishing / Music K-8 Marketplace 2021-2022 School SY21CatPages.qxp_Layout 1 7/30/21 3:20 PM Page 1 A Christmas K-4 Musical Perfectly Designed For Your Young Performers! ANTLERS A Fashionable Musical For Young Voices by Teresa Jennings & Karl Hitzemann Everyone knows that all magic reindeer just want to fly, right? Or do they? This imaginative little musical dares to consider that maybe, just maybe, a reindeer’s career outcome doesn’t have to be quite so predictable. In fact, it could be very different. Such is the case in our story, where a few recent graduates of the School of Reindeer have realized that their true passions call less for flying, and more for drawing, sewing, and crafting. In other words, they want to be fashion designers. And not just any fashion designers – ANTLER fashion designers! With a little help from their North Pole friends, notably some elves and other reindeer, they decide to showcase some of their fabulous couture on the runway. Unbeknownst to them, Santa and Mrs. Claus just happen to catch some of the show and are very impressed. So much so that they invite the designers to create new antler fashions for the “famous eight” – and just in time to wear for their big night out! Designed for ease of production and flexibility, this delightful musical offers opportunities for creativity, imagination, and artistic expression. With five simple and memorable songs (and some action music), young performers will delight in the chance to not only create their own stylish antler designs, but to showcase them as they walk, strut, sway, and sashay across your performance area this holiday season. The five original songs include: Christmas Is Right Around The Corner, Stylish, Design Your Dreams, On The Runway, and Ready For Christmas. As with all of our revues and musicals, there is a thoughtfully designed Teacher’s Guide, with lots of suggestions for making a great performance. Also included are reproducible Singer’s Parts, lyric sheets, posters, and program covers. ANTLERS is available in four ways: printed Teacher’s Handbook with CD, printed Teacher’s Handbook with downloadable MP3s, downloadable PDFs and MP3s, and, for the best of both worlds, our CONVENIENCE COMBO KIT, which includes both print/CD and downloadable files. THE YOUNG & THE MERRY A Collection Of Seasonal Songs For Little Singers byb Teresa & Paul Jennings and Mike Wilson Our writers love creating songs for that festive season of the year, and they especially have ffun writing music for your younger singers. We have filled this new collection with an array of ssome of their best tunes in recent years. • Let’s Build A Gingerbread House - Your young singers will love this little tune. It has a bbouncy swing style and sweet, simple lyrics. Performing in front of an audience will certainly be eenough to yield the “awwww” factor. But if you really want to get to them, consider adding a bit oof movement with some adorable dance moves. • Baby Christmas Tree - This adaptation of the familiar Christmas carol, “O Christmas TTree,” is anything but traditional, though at first, you may think so. It starts with a lush oorchestral introduction, but then quickly evolves (devolves?) into a combination rock/novelty ppiece, complete with sound effects usefully placed as cues for singers. • What’s In That Stocking? - This sweet little song might be just the thing you’re looking ffor. It poses the question which every kid has surely wondered at one time or another. Of ccourse, the inability to contain their curiosity also leads to the final decision, “Let’s peek!” • Snowflake, Snowflake - “Snowflake, Snowflake” is a very simple and very short song for yyour primary group. With an accompaniment recording of all acoustic instruments including gguitar, mandolin, bass, piano, percussion, and strings, we took a calm, peaceful approach. • A Hat For My Snowman - Your young singers will shine with this cute and bouncy little ttune about providing the appropriate attire for a snowman. • Winter Wiggles - In the classroom or in a performance, here’s an opportunity for your kkids to release all that pent up energy from being stuck inside during the cold winter months. TThe lyrics are deliberately basic and easy to learn so that they don’t upstage the important stuff: tthe wiggling! We give suggestions for movement, including the wiggles. • Peppermint Candy Cane - This bouncy tune praises that delectable sweet treat in such a wway that even your youngest singers will be able to join in. It’s repetitious, with simple lyrics thath are easy to remember.b AAdddd movement to your performancef with the help of the choreography video. • Jingle Bell Parade - Use this piece in performance at your holiday concert, or use it as a processional or recessional. Including movement is easy: Simply add marching steps, even if just in place. SONGS FOR AUTUMN A Creative Collection For Young Voices byb Teresa Jennings, John Riggio & Paul Jennings Autumn is probably our favorite time of year, and over the years we have written some ttasty tunes to sing along with this super season. In this unique collection you will find the ffollowing great songs: • An Autumn-ish Feelin’ - This super happy song is upbeat and enthusiastic, and a lot of ffun to sing, especially if you happen to be an autumn aficionado. Done in a pop/rock style, with aan optional second part, use this song in your classroom for the joy of it or in a performance ssetting, maybe adding some movement and color with scarves or ribbons if you like. • I Like The Colors Of The Fall - Though this song is quite simple, it’s also very cute and ffunny. The real humor comes from the contrast between the oblivious singers and the ccommentator. They are blithely adoring the colors of the fall, no matter how frustrated the sspeaker gets. Your challenge may be getting them to continue singing without giggling! • Autumn

A Brand New Resource For Your Music Classroom! GAMES & GROOVES FOR BUCKET BAND, RHYTHM STICKS, AND LOTS OF JOYOUS INSTRUMENTS by John Riggio and Paul Jennings Over the last few years, bucket bands have grown greatly in popularity. Percussion is an ideal way to teach rhythmic concepts and this low-cost percussion ensemble is a great way to feel the joy of group performance without breaking your budget. This unique new product by John Riggio and Paul Jennings is designed for players just beyond beginners, though some or all players can easily adapt the included parts. Unlike some bucket band music, this is written with just one bucket part, intended to be performed on a small to medium-size bucket. If your ensemble has large/bass buckets, they can either play the written part or devise a more bass-like part to add. Every selection features rhythm sticks, though the tracks are designed to work with just buckets, or any combination of the parts provided. These change from tune to tune and include Boomwhackers®, ukulele, cowbell, shaker, guiro, and more. There are two basic types of tunes here, games and game-like tunes, and grooves. The games each stand on their own, and the grooves are short, repetitive, and fun to play, with many repeats. Some songs have multiple tempos to ease learning. And, as you may have learned with other music from Plank Road Publishing and MUSIC K-8, we encourage and permit you to adapt all music to best serve your needs. This unique collection includes: • Grizzly Bear Groove • Buckets Are Forever (A Secret Agent Groove) • Grape Jelly Groove • Divide & Echo • Build-A-Beat • Rhythm Roundabout ...and more! These tracks were produced by John Riggio, who brings you many of Plank Road’s most popular works.

STEPHENS rT r aHE SOUL TRADITION is a prime cultural force in American popular music; of that, there can be little doubt, although this musical phenomenon is sometimes vaguely defined. Born of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements of the 1960s, soul has provided a musical and cultural foundation for virtually every facet of contemporary popular music. More important than its commercial successes, however, are the messages and philosophies it has communicated and the musical influences which underlie its development.

76 The Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow – Bring back the dream October 12th, 2011 Before I come to the title of this post I must conclude the last. In my last post I said there was money around to pay for things that the Government never puts its hands on, namely the value of the land we work on. I showed that this is an old idea whose time has actually begun to arrive in some parts of the world. Scroll back to the last post and you will see what I mean. In this post I want to talk about how we pay for health and how we pay for education, one tax too few and one tax too many -the tax on our gifted and talented students if they are successful and have to repay their student loans. First Health. There are two questions when it comes to Health. How do you deliver it? And, how do you pay for it? Politicians make the huge mistake of continually to address the first, but never addressing the second. Because of that, they never get the first one totally right. Let me explain. We need health provision from the day we are born to the day we die, and most of it at the beginning and end and of our lives, but an important part of it during our working lives to make sure we can earn a living. But we pay for it only during our working lives, in our National Insurance contributions and income tax.
