ELON, N.C. -- Towson jumped out to an early lead, TOWSON, Md. -- STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- but they were not able to sustain as a driving rain and injuries aided the Tigers 13-17 loss at Elon. The Tigers defense got off to a fast start as Alfonso Augustine forced and recovered a fumble on the first play from scrimmage. Towson was unable to convert a fourth down and turned the ball back over. On the next possession, Darius Victor scored from four yards out to give Towson the lead. Later in the first quarter, freshman Shane Simpson broke out of the pack and raced for a 49-yard touchdown. After injuries left the Tigers very thin at running back, quarterback Connor Frazier put the team on his back and set a quarterback rushing record by running for 132 yards on 20 attempts. The Tigers had one final drive to win the game. Frazier led Towson down to the Elon 15. After a fumble, Frazier looked to spike the ball with one second remaining on the clock. The officials ruled it came after the buzzer and the game was over. In just one half of play, Simpson finished with 72 yards and his first touchdown on nine attempts. Jacquille Veii led the receivers with five catches for 38 yards. Brian Dowling added four catches for 46 yards. The Tiger defense allowed just 72 yards on the ground and 205 total yards. Jon Desir led the team with eight tackles, while Eddie Releford added 1.5 sacks.
