AMATO BIO + LINKS Matt Amato is an American film writer and director. A "radical filmmaker,” his work has been described as "gorgeous, incredibly cinematic” and “visionary". As an influential music video director, he has worked with some of the greatest musicians of this generation. His major works include music videos for popular artists such as Barbra Streisand, Beach House, Bon Iver, Dido, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Soko, and Wild Nothing. He also co-founded the iconoclastic Los Angeles based visual arts collective, The Masses. In 2020, he completed his debut feature, Never My Love. Amato is now documenting the efforts of historic preservationist Larry Giles at the National Building Arts Center. Amato is a radical filmmaker, willing to make a movie that travels like a river, or unfolds like a piece of music or a real human life, something that seems alien after we’ve slumped in theater seats, overdazzling our retinas with exploding cars and exploding planets. He realizes the transformative power of seeing—and not seeing. Of showing the full spectrum of a full human life, with a slice hidden in shadow. That unsettled, mysterious place makes room for the watcher but throws down the challenge to do more than just watch. - Stefene Russell, St. Louis Magazine Early life and education Amato filming Red House Painters music video in San Fransisco, CA. Amato grew up in St. Louis, MO and was educated by the Benedictine monks at St. Louis Priory. He briefly attended film school at Columbia College in Chicago before venturing to California. Tourism in Hollywood Cemeteries

E-ISSN 1943-4146 www.cognizantcommunication.com REST IN FAME: CELEBRITY TOURISM IN HOLLYWOOD CEMETERIES MARTA SOLIGO AND DAVID R. DICKENS Department of Sociology, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV, USA This research is a critical study of tourism at four cemeteries in the Los Angeles area between 2013 and 2019: Hollywood Forever, Forest Lawn in Glendale, Forest Lawn in Hollywood, and Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery. We examined these venues through the lens of celebrity tourism, since they are known as “Hollywood memorial parks,” hosting the graves of some of the most famous stars in the world. Through participant observation, informal conversations, and content analysis of texts we aimed to understand how the relationship between these venues and the entertainment industry works as a “pull factor” for tourists. Our data collection and analysis led to three main findings. Firstly, we identified the motivations behind the increasing number of tourists who add Los Angeles cemeteries to their must-see list. Although scholars often define cemeteries as dark tourism destinations, our investigation shows that Hollywood memorial parks are more related to celebrity tourism. Secondly, employing the notion of “cult of celebrity,” we described how the experience of tourists visiting their favorite celebrity’s grave can be seen as a modern pilgrimage centered on a collective experience. Thirdly, we analyzed the cemetery as a commodity in which executives work to promote the site as the perfect location where one can spend the “eternal life.” In this sense, we also investigated how memorial parks are often used as venues for cultural events, attracting a large number of tourists. -

THE CYCLONE, 834 Surf Avenue at West 10Th Street, Brooklyn
Landmarks Preservation Commission July 12, 1988; Designation List 206 LP-1636 THE CYCLONE, 834 Surf Avenue at West 10th Street, Brooklyn. Built 1927. Inventor Harry c. Baker. Engineer Vernon Keenan. Landmark Site: Borough of Brooklyn Tax Map Block 8697, Lot 4 in part consisting of the land on which the described improvement is situated. On September 15, 1987, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of the cyclone and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site (Item No. 12). The hearing had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Six witnesses spoke in favor of designation, including the ride's owner, whose support was given dependant upon his ability to perform routine repair and maintenance. One witness spoke in opposition to designation. The Commission has received many letters in favor of designation. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS Summary Descended from the ice slides enjoyed in eighteenth-century Russia, through the many changes incorporated by French and American inventors, the Cyclone has been one of our country's premier roller coasters since its construction in 1927. Designed by engineer Vernon Keenan and built by noted amusement ride inventor Harry C. Baker for Jack and Irving Rosenthal, the Cyclone belongs to an increasingly rare group of wood-track coasters; modern building codes make it irreplaceable. The design of its twister-type circuit and the enormous weight of the cars allow the trains to travel on their own momentum after being carried up to the first plunge by mechanical means. Now part of Astroland amusement park, the Cyclone is not only a well recognized feature of Coney Island, where the first "modern" coaster was built in 1884, but, sadly, is the only roller coaster still operating there. -

DATE: July 09, 2021 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Getty Exhibition Reassembles Medieval Italian Triptych Paolo Veneziano: Art and Devotion in 14th-Century Venice is the first monographic exhibition on the artist in U.S. The Crucifixion, about 1340-1345 Paolo Veneziano (Italian (Venetian), about 1295 - about 1362) Tempera and gold leaf on panel Unframed: 33.9 × 41.1 cm (13 5/16 × 16 3/16 in.) Framed: 37.2 × 45.4 × 5.7 cm (14 5/8 × 17 7/8 × 2 1/4 in.) National Gallery of Art, Washington, Samuel H. Kress Collection, 1939.1.143 LOS ANGELES - Paolo Veneziano (about 1295–about 1362) was the premier painter in late medieval Venice, producing religious works ranging from large complex altarpieces to small paintings used by Christians for personal devotion. A new exhibition, on view at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Getty Center, from July 13 through October 3, 2021, brings together numerous paintings that reveal the delicate beauty and exquisite colors that distinguish Paolo Veneziano’s art. The centerpiece of the show reunites painted panels that originally belonged together but are today housed in different collections. “It is fairly commonplace for museums around the world to own fragments of what were once larger ensembles, dismantled in later centuries for sale on the art market,” explains Timothy Potts, Maria Hummer-Tuttle and Robert Tuttle Director of the J. Paul Getty Museum. “Paolo Veneziano: Art and Devotion in 14th-Century Venice presents a rare exception: a completely intact triptych for personal devotion, on loan from the National Gallery of Parma, Italy. The appearance of this triptych was the basis for the reconstruction of an almost identical triptych, the so-called Worcester triptych, reassembled for the first time in this exhibition.” Portable devotional triptychs, self-supporting and with closable shutters, were regularly made by artists and craftspeople in Venice throughout the fourteenth century.
