With a founding date of 1807, UMB is just thirty-one years shy of sharing a birthyear with the United States and with a home in Baltimore a mere thirty-eight miles from Washington, D.C. it is not surprising to find ties to the U.S. Presidency. What Are Connecticut College Alumni Doing Five Years after Graduation? A Study of the Class of 2013 Wesley M. Morris ’20 and John D. Nugent Office of Institutional Research and Planning July 2018 SUMMARY We found reliable information about the employment and graduate school activities of about 87% of the Class of 2013. Five years after graduating from Connecticut College, about 96% of those for whom we found information were employed, in graduate school, or recent graduates of a degree program. Our students follow a variety of post-undergraduate pathways into jobs, fellowships, internships, degree programs, and non-degree coursework, and nearly half of the Class of 2013 has obtained some form of additional education. OVERVIEW Colleges and universities are now routinely expected to collect and report “outcomes” data on their graduates, primarily on employment, salaries, and graduate and professional school attendance.1 Collecting accurate data on a large portion of a graduated class is tricky, and there is currently no consensus on the best time or method for collecting the data. The National Association of Colleges and Employers has developed a voluntary “first destination” survey that they suggest administering six months following graduation,2 although that timeframe seems primarily aimed at answering the question of how many college graduates quickly secure employment and thus the ability to begin paying off student loans. While important, this is not the only outcome we should be interested in, particularly as an institution offering a liberal arts education, the fruits of which may take years to fully appear. Thus, a longer-term view that looks at graduates’ activities one or more years after graduation has been the approach taken by Connecticut College in our one-year-out and five-year-out studies. -

Introduction and Provenance In December 1993, Dr. Hugh W. Cunningham, a former professor of journalism at the University of Florida, donated two distinct newspaper collections to the Special Collections room of the USF St. Petersburg library. The bulk of the newspapers document events following the November 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy. A second component of the newspapers examine the reaction to Richard M. Nixon's resignation in August 1974. -

DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER LIBRARY ABILENE, KANSAS ROBINSON, WILLIAM E.: Papers, 1935-69 William E. Robinson held positions as a newspaper executive with the New York Evening Journal (1933-36) and the New York Herald Tribune (1936-54), directed his own public relations firm of Robinson-Hannegan Associates (1954-55), and served as president and chairman of the board of Coca-Cola, Inc. (1955-61). In addition to having a long and distinguished career in business, Mr. Robinson also enjoyed a long and close personal friendship with Dwight D. Eisenhower, dating from their first meeting in World War II until their deaths in 1969. Mr. Robinson’s papers reflect both his business career and, especially, his association with Dwight D. Eisenhower. Mr. Robinson first met General Eisenhower in 1944 when the former was in Europe to reestablish publication of the Herald Tribune’s European edition. Their association became more intimate in 1947 when Mr. Robinson prevailed upon the General to write his World War II memoirs. According to arrangements worked out by Mr. Robinson, General Eisenhower’s Crusade in Europe came out in the fall of 1948, published in book form by Doubleday and syndicated to newspapers worldwide by the Herald Tribune. The two men were drawn together by a great admiration and respect for each other’s ideas and judgments, and an abiding common passion for playing bridge and golf. It was Mr. Robinson, in the spring of 1948 after the General had finished drafting his memoirs, who first introduced the Eisenhowers to Augusta National Golf Club. When General Eisenhower became president of Columbia University in New York City, the two had frequent occasions to play bridge together and to enjoy a game of golf at Blind Brook Golf Club where Mr. -

As an outreach arm of Sarah Lawrence College, CDI’s mission is to promote a developmentally informed view of children, childhood, and education and to act as an internal resource on campus and in the community. CDI carries out its mission through public events, professional development programs, and outreach and collaborative projects. In the progressive education perspective with which CDI identifies, the child is viewed as an individual in the social context, actively engaged in constructing knowledge through interactions with other people and the physical environment. CDI believes that the child’s educational experience should encompass social, emotional, and imaginative aspects of life in concert with intellectual development and that schools and other institutions be developed as communities that attend to the interests and needs of children from diverse backgrounds. CDI emphasizes that the individual child, as well as groups of children, should always be considered in the context of their environments—family, neighborhood, school, and culture. Faces of CDI The Child Development Institute staff consists of Indhira Blackwood, CDI Director, and Saundra Norton, CDI and Art of Teaching Administrative Assistant. CDI staff work closely with the CDI Faculty Advisory Group: Lorayne Carbon, Jan Drucker, Kim Ferguson, Barbara Schecter, and Sara Wilford; and CDI Professional Advisory Board Chair, Abigail Canfield.
