Huddersfield is home to the University of Huddersfield which has 19,275 students in total. The site itself is situated north of the Holmfirth village, and is accessed off New Mill Road; it is surrounded by wood land and residential dwellings. Holmfirth town centre is a 20 minute walk, where there are various amenities including; independent and national chain shops, restaurants and the Victoria Park. The site is served by a bus stop directly opposite the entrance, with routes to Holmfirth, Hepworth and Upperthong. Site Description The site is located in a semi-urban area in Holmfirth. It is roughly rectangular in shape and has a site area of 2.3 ha (5.7 acres) gross. The brownfield site formerly housed a car dealership and is split into two main areas; the top section which is currently used for parking by the public, and the bottom section, which is cleared, is a former car dealership. To the north of the site is a tennis club, an area of open space and woodland leading to existing housing, with a small number of local businesses. New Mill Road and existing housing bounds the site to the east. To the west is a dismantled railway, part of Berry Bank Lane and the River Holme and to the south is Glenview, a large detached house in substantial grounds, together with other similar houses.
