After thousands of test kilometers including the recent test day at Le Mans, the new Audi R18 TDI is ready for its first race. At the 1000-kilometer race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) on May 7, Audi Sport Team Joest will perform its “dress rehearsal” for the Le Mans 24 Hours. The racing debut of a new race car is always a very special event and Audi Sport has good experiences in this regard. Since 2000 every new sports prototype of the brand with the four rings has won its first race. In 2000, 2006 and 2009 Sebring in Florida (USA) was the venue of the respective debut victories of the R8, R10 TDI and R15 TDI models. The updated R15 TDI, internally designated as “R15 plus,” won its maiden race as well, at Le Castellet (France). Now Spa-Francorchamps is the track to see the debut of the latest LMP1 sports car made by Audi which turns the company’s ultra-lightweight technology into a visual experience and which is equipped with a new type of ultra-compact V6 TDI engine. -

MEDIA INFORMATION November 2013 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship Round 7: 6 Hours of Shanghai Victory for the N°1 AUDI R18 e-tron quattro/MICHELIN, as Tom Kristensen/Loïc Duval/Allan McNish secure the 2013 WEC Drivers’ title After the torrential rain that forced the organisers to halt the recent 6 Hours of Fuji after just 16 laps, all spent behind the safety car, Audi Sport Team Joest and Toyota Motorsport GmbH were both eager to join battle once again this weekend in China. In contrast to the conditions encountered in Japan, the 6 Hours of Shanghai was marked by clear skies and warm weather (air temperature: approximately 25°C, and track temperatures up to 30°C) which enabled the teams to produce yet another thrilling show, with the outcome only settled with less than half-an-hour remaining. The pole-winning N°7 Toyota TS030-Hybrid of Wurz/Lapierre carved out an early lead, while the N°8 sister car – with Antony Davidson in command – engaged in a fight with André Lotterer in the N°1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro. On Lap 10, the British driver succeeded in finding a way past to ease into second place. The two Japanese prototypes then proceeded to dominate the top of the leaderboard until the eventful 143rd lap (190 laps completed in total). After 4½ hours of racing, the N°8 Toyota TS030-Hybrid was suddenly eliminated when its front- right suspension failed under barking for Turn 6. This promoted the N°1 Audi to second spot, approximately half-a-minute behind the N°7 Toyota, thanks to a strong stint from Benoît Tréluyer in the German car, as well as to a couple of time-consuming „moments‟ for the Japanese team‟s Nicolas Lapierre while overtaking slower competitors. -

Audi Repeats Last Year's Sebring Victory Quotes After the Race
Sebring, 18 March 2001 Audi repeats last year’s Sebring victory Audi had a successful dress rehersal for the 24 Hour Race at Le Mans: For the second time in a row Team Audi Sport North America took a 1-2 victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring (USA). Michele Alboreto, Laurent Aiello and Rinaldo Capello finished the race just 0.482s ahead of their team mates and last year’s winners Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen and Emanuele Pirro. The Audi customer teams of Champion and Johansson even made it the first 1-2-3-4 victory of Audi in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) finishing 3rd and 4th. In front of a record crowd of 168,000 spectators, the two Infineon Audi R8s were setting the pace from the start on a track which is famous for being very demanding. The two customer R8s, however, stayed close making the pace among the leaders extremely fast. The two Infineon Audi R8s were fighting for victory for the whole twelve hour distance. Despite the enormous strain, the cars did not suffer from any severe difficulties. The Infineon Audi R8 #1 just had its front brake discs replaced shortly after half distance, the companion car had two pit stops because of a malfunction in the engine’s electrics. For the Audi crew the dress rehersal for Le Mans, however, is not completely over: On Monday and Tuesday the torture of another full 12- hour-distance is on the schedule for one of the two successful Infineon Audi R8s. Le Mans, 12 June 2004 Audi also fastest in warm-up The Audi importer teams were also setting the pace in the warm-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours on Saturday morning. JJ Lehto set the fastest time (3m 36.078s) with Team ADT Champion Racing’s Audi R8 which is supported by Audi Sport North America. The two Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx Audi R8 cars followed just behind in second and third position. Audi Sport Japan Team Goh’s Audi R8 was classified in fifth place. At the start, set for 4 p.m., Jamie Davies (#88), Allan McNish (#8), Rinaldo Capello (#5) and JJ Lehto (#2) will be driving the four Audi R8 sports cars. Within the space of three weeks, sports car fans have been thrilled by the lead in the manufacturers’ championship changing twice. Following two one-two victories in succession, Audi had taken the top spot in the standings at the season’s midpoint. Although the brand had to relinquish its lead in the race in Japan, it remains in striking distance of the leader of the standings. Now the World Championship decision is coming to a head, as the sixth of eight WEC races is on the agenda at Shanghai on November 2. The brand with the four rings is separated by merely eight points from leader of the standings Toyota in the manufacturers’ classification, while the brand’s advantage over the third-placed brand, Porsche, is 66 points. A total of 132 points are yet to be awarded until the finale. The WEC round in China has special significance for Audi for several reasons. The track is regarded as very challenging, the team achieved victory there last year, and the ‘Middle Kingdom’ has evolved into the largest sales market for AUDI AG. In China, the company delivered 415,704 automobiles between January and September – 16 percent more than a year ago. -

Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1).
