DIRECTIONS TO HEADQUARTERS, MANSION HOUSE, BRONLLYS Directions from: Abergavenny - follow the A40 from Abergavenny to Crickhowell; continue on A40 for about 2 miles at the Nantyffin Pub turn right onto the A479 to Builth Wells continue on that road to Talgarth. At the roundabout in Talgarth take the 2nd exit follow road to Bronllys. At the roundabout in Bronllys take the 1st exit to Brecon onto the A438. At the next roundabout take 1st exit for Mansion House* (see below for instructions) or 2nd exit for Bronllys Hospital. Hay-on-Wye - follow the B4350 out of Hay at Glasbury take the A438 to Brecon bypassing Bronllys at the 1st roundabout take 2nd exit for Brecon and at the next roundabout take the 1st exit for Mansion House and 2nd exit for Bronllys Hospital. For Mansion House follow instructions below*. Brecon - follow A470 out of Brecon towards Hay-on-Wye and Hereford (A438). Follow that road for approximately 8 miles. As you enter Bronllys village there is a house on your left and a sign for Powys Teaching Local Health Board – this will take you up to Mansion House. For Bronllys Hospital, drive past this turning until you come down the hill to the roundabout and take the 1st exit for Bronllys Hospital. Builth Wells - follow A470 from Builth Wells, through Llyswen. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit up the hill – continue on that road to a T junction. Turn right for Brecon A438 – at the next roundabout take the 2nd exit for Brecon A438 bypassing Bronllys - at the next roundabout take 1st exit for Mansion House and 2nd exit for Bronllys Hospital. For Mansion House follow instructions below*. *For Mansion House continue along A438 to Brecon and take next driveway on the right carry on up this driveway to the top the Mansion House will be in front of you. Parking Bronllys hospital parking is available in the two large car parks before the main hospital buildings, and also some near certain departments. Mansion House parking is available at the rear of the building. The main reception is at the rear of the building – it is signposted. .

S T R A Y S Volume One: !'IARRIAGES Introduction This volume of 'stray' marriages is published with the hope that it will prove of some value as an additional source for the familv historian. For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. I would like to thank all those members who have helped in anyway with the compilation of this booklet. A second collection is already in progress; please· send any contributions to me. Many thanks Powys Childcare Team We are working to support families with their childcare needs to ensure the continuation of frontline services during the Covid-19 outbreak, and to provide care for vulnerable children. We are hoping to ensure that a limited number of our Childcare Providers remain open to provide care for these groups of children who are not yet of school age from Friday 27th March onwards. Where at all possible, children should stay at home. This cannot be over-emphasized. If your work is critical to the Covid-19 response or you work in one of the critical sectors listed below, and your child cannot stay at home, then your childcare will be prioritised: - Health and social care - Education and childcare - Key public services - Local and national government - Food and other necessary goods - Transport - Utilities, communication and financial services. From Friday 27th March, we are hoping to have childcare for children not of school age at the following locations: - Ystradgynlais - Brecon - Crickhowell - Llandrindod Wells - Newbridge - Llyswen - Newtown - Welshpool - Llanfyllin - Llanidloes The situation is being continually reviewed and there could be changes to provision, based on patterns of demand. Whilst we hope access to childcare will be provided to enable key workers to work during this critical period, we do need to keep the number of children in educational, childcare and play settings to the smallest number possible.

WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020
WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020 It is now nearly 6 months since we began sampling Phosphate (P) levels in the Wye in the river. To date we have taken some 259 samples at 14 locations in the river & tributaries. Our team of volunteers has grown to 11 with the addition of monitoring the main river at Fawley. When lockdown and river levels permit we will install a water temperature monitor as part of our ongoing Temperature Monitoring programme at the same location. Whilst we are observing some interesting data on P levels it remains inappropriate to draw firm conclusions until we gather a more substantive volume of data from a range of conditions throughout the year. However, there are some initial interesting results that encourage more detailed investigations. I have attached our spreadsheet for information. If you wish a full ‘excel’ file for your personal study and analysis please email me at [email protected] Some of our data is being analysed by an undergraduate at Cardiff University, himself an angler. Beginning with basic mapping of the sites he will follow on to study temporal trends in phosphate and river levels. At first look he is beginning to observe trends between water colour and phosphate level which seems likely rainfall linked. He will use various techniques to produce visual representations of the spatial and temporal variations in water chemistry. More at our next update. In tandem with the usual phosphate checks for WSA, and in the aftermath of the most recent fish kill on the Llynfi, Gwent AS has invested in an ammonia checker which records NH3-N.

We can now plan for the future with increased confidence for a future of stable education for all our students, from 11-18. Another busy term is almost over and Christmas is rapidly approaching. Once again this has been a very busy time and it never ceases to amaze me how many activities we are able to fit in. There is a very lively and positive atmosphere around school and students are achieving amazing things, many of which are included in this magazine. Good There have been lots of developments to improve the school environment over the summer, and of course our new uniform has been introduced with students looking incredibly smart. The new uniform has proved a greater success than Behaviour even I would have predicted. I have received many compliments from members of the local community regarding the smart appearance of our students both Award verbally and in writing. Students also seem to be enjoying the new uniform. My particular thanks to all parents for being patient in waiting for deliveries due to the A Good Behaviour Award is given large volume of new uniform purchase.

A Welsh Classical Dictionary
A WELSH CLASSICAL DICTIONARY DACHUN, saint of Bodmin. See s.n. Credan. He has been wrongly identified with an Irish saint Dagan in LBS II.281, 285. G.H.Doble seems to have been misled in the same way (The Saints of Cornwall, IV. 156). DAGAN or DANOG, abbot of Llancarfan. He appears as Danoc in one of the ‘Llancarfan Charters’ appended to the Life of St.Cadog (§62 in VSB p.130). Here he is a clerical witness with Sulien (presumably abbot) and king Morgan [ab Athrwys]. He appears as abbot of Llancarfan in five charters in the Book of Llandaf, where he is called Danoc abbas Carbani Uallis (BLD 179c), and Dagan(us) abbas Carbani Uallis (BLD 158, 175, 186b, 195). In these five charters he is contemporary with bishop Berthwyn and Ithel ap Morgan, king of Glywysing. He succeeded Sulien as abbot and was succeeded by Paul. See Trans.Cym., 1948 pp.291-2, (but ignore the dates), and compare Wendy Davies, LlCh p.55 where Danog and Dagan are distinguished. Wendy Davies dates the BLD charters c.A.D.722 to 740 (ibid., pp.102 - 114). DALLDAF ail CUNIN COF. (Legendary). He is included in the tale of ‘Culhwch and Olwen’ as one of the warriors of Arthur's Court: Dalldaf eil Kimin Cof (WM 460, RM 106). In a triad (TYP no.73) he is called Dalldaf eil Cunyn Cof, one of the ‘Three Peers’ of Arthur's Court. In another triad (TYP no.41) we are told that Fferlas (Grey Fetlock), the horse of Dalldaf eil Cunin Cof, was one of the ‘Three Lovers' Horses’ (or perhaps ‘Beloved Horses’).
