The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas Fun Facts The Venetian Las Vegas With the addition of The Palazzo to The Venetian, the combined properties have more than 7,000 suites, making this “under one roof” space the largest hotel in the world. The London Sunday Mail called The Venetian one of the seven “Grandest Hotels in the World.” In 2014, TripAdvisor named The Venetian the world’s most extraordinarily designed hotel. Combined, The Venetian and Palazzo house more than 2.3 million square feet of meeting space, 1 million square feet of retail space, and more than 30 restaurants. The Venetian lobby features 25-foot-high columns made of solid Botticino marble, imported from Italy. The Venetian Colonnade’s marble floor was hand fitted and modeled of the floor of the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario in Venice. The Campanile tower is 315 ft. tall, nearly as tall as the 323-ft. original in Venice. The Palazzo Las Vegas The Palazzo is 50 stories tall. There are no 4th, 13th, or 14th floors in the building. The Palazzo is the second tallest building in Nevada at 639.5 feet. The Palazzo contains 233,000 cubic yards of concrete. That equals 19,417 fully loaded concrete trucks—enough concrete to build a six-foot wide sidewalk from The Venetian all the way to the northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park. The Palazzo features the only two-story porte cochere in Nevada with one level for drop off and another for pick up. With remarkable attention to detail, 70 different types of finishes were used throughout the property.

  • Oasis/Mirage: Fantasies of Nature in Las Vegas*
_______________________________________________________ 2002, in Nature and its Discontents from Virgin Land to Disney World: Reinterpretations of Freud's Civilization Thesis in the America(s) of Yesterday and Today. Ed. B. Herzogenrath. New York: Editions Rodopi ________________________________________________________ Natasha Dow Schull Oasis/Mirage: Fantasies of Nature in Las Vegas* I had the great fortune of arriving in Las Vegas at dawn in an airplane. It was light enough to see the city and part of the desert, but it was still dark enough so that they hadn't turned the signs off for the day. I never saw such a sight in my life. It looked like an entire city was lurching across the desert. It was an incredible movement! I rented a car and started driving and I saw an extraordinary thing: the horizon, the skyline, was not made of trees and it was not made of buildings. It was all signs. Tom Wolfe (in Stern 1979:11) The towns of the desert end abruptly; they have no surround. And they have about them something of the mirage, which may vanish at any instant. You have only to see Las Vegas, sublime Las Vegas, rise in its entirety from the desert at nightfall bathed in phosphorescent lights, and return to the desert when the sun rises, after exhausting its intense, superficial energy all night long, still more intense in the first light of dawn, to understand the secret of the desert and the signs to be found there: a spellbinding discontinuity, an all-enveloping, intermittent radiation. Jean Baudrillard (1989:127) Almost everyone notes that there is no “time” in Las Vegas, no night and no day and no past and no future; neither is there any logical sense of where one is.

  • Bellagio Resort Parking Garage
BELLAGIO RESORT PARKING GARAGE Although Las Vegas is known for its gambling, that was the last thing developers wanted to do when it came to selecting protective coatings for the new 10-story, 5,300 space employee parking structure at the elegant Bellagio Resort and Casino. That’s why proven protective coatings from Tnemec were applied on the parking structure’s interior concrete, exterior concrete columns and shop primed steel located on the tenth floor, as well as the decorative ornamental steel. The new construction replaces an employee parking lot located on the site of the $11 billion Project CityCenter, a 66-acre mixed-use development described as the largest privately financed development in the U.S. Nearly 34,000 gallons of Series 180 W.B. Tneme-Crete, an acrylic emulsion coating, were applied to the concrete in the parking structure, according to Eric Brackman, Tnemec coating consultant for the project. “The interior of the structure was a little more than two million square feet,” Brackman noted. “Being a dry-fall material, we didn’t have to worry about overspray of the product on employee or customer vehicles.” Concrete substrates were pressure washed to provide a clean, PROJECT INFORMATION dry and sound surface prior to the application. Afterwards, the interior coating was applied by airless spray equipment. “They first started applying the material in December 2005 when the Project Location temperature can get cold, so the ability to apply the coating in Las Vegas, Nevada cooler weather was critical,” Brackman acknowledged. Project Completion Date “The fact that the coating can be applied as soon as seven days Fall 2006 after the concrete is poured was another important factor,” Owner Brackman said.

Commerce St. Caesars has a significant presence in Las Vegas with a 63% EBITDA Las Vegas, NV 89141 exposure. Labor contracts for most Las Vegas casino resorts, including all but one of the Caesars properties, expire at the end of May. Last week, 25,000 union members voted to authorize a strike by a 99% margin. Main outstanding issues in CZR negotiations include technology, housekeeping workload study, union security in case of change of ownership, and wages and benefits. The difference between the two sides’ economic proposals is approximately $7.4 million in the first year and $8.9 million in the fifth year. A one-month strike could reduce CZR’s EBITDAR by nearly $120 million. Negotiations are scheduled for May 29 and May 30 Labor contracts for most Las Vegas casino resorts expire at the end of May. Collective bargaining agreements between UNITE HERE’s Culinary Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165 (“the Union”) and most of the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and Downtown Las Vegas are set to expire at the end of this month. Caesars has a significant presence in Las Vegas with a 63% EBITDA exposure. Negotiations for a new 5-year deal covering all CZR properties’ approximately 12,000 workers started in March, but major differences remain between the unions and the company.
