This study aimed to identify the damage caused by this species, evaluate its development, and correlate its infestation rate with physical and chemical characteristics of Packhams and Williams pear fruit cultivars at five different stages of development. In the field, cages were installed on branches of the pear plants in which two couples of A. fraterculus were released for a period of 48 hours. The damage resulting from oviposition was evaluated at fifteen-day intervals from the day the insects were released until harvest. The evaluation of damage consisted of visual observation of decayed and deformed fruits and the presence of larvae. In the laboratory, two couples were individualized with one fruit in a 750 mL pot for 48 hours. -

If it becomes established in commercial fruit production areas, its presence can inflict substantial economic harm through loss of export markets. Such fundamental understanding provides a basis for developing strategies to manipulate the pest’s behaviour, distribution, and population dynamics, to be employed for crop protection. This review focuses on the fundamental knowledge required for the development of an effective push-pull approach. Push-pull is a strategy to repel a pest from a crop, while attracting it toward an external location. It often relies on infochemicals (e.g., pheromones or allelochemicals) that are relevant in the ecology of the pest insect and can be exploited as lure or repellent. Importantly, responsiveness of insects to infochemicals is dependent on both the insect’s internal physiological state and external environmental conditions. This context-dependency reflects the integration of cues from different sensory modalities, the effect of mating and/or feeding status, as well as diurnal or seasonal rhythms. Furthermore, when the costs of responding to an infochemical outweigh the benefits, resistance can rapidly evolve. -

Organics Expert Group for Technical Advice on Organic Production EGTOP FINAL REPORT ON PLANT PROTECTION (III) The EGTOP adopted this technical advice at the 13th plenary meeting of 9 – 10 June 2016 and submitted the final version on 26 October 2016 EGTOP/2016 Plant Protection (III) __________________________________________________________________________________ About the setting up of an independent expert panel for technical advice With the Communication from the Commission to the Council and to the European Parliament on a European action plan for organic food and farming adopted in June 2004, the Commission intended to assess the situation and to lay down the basis for policy development, thereby providing an overall strategic vision for the contribution of organic farming to the common agricultural policy. In particular, the European action plan for organic food and farming recommends, in action 11, establishing an independent expert panel for technical advice. The Commission may need technical advice to decide on the authorisation of the use of products, substances and techniques in organic farming and processing, to develop or improve organic production rules and, more in general, for any other matter relating to the area of organic production. By Commission Decision 2009/427/EC of 3 June 2009, the Commission set up the Expert Group for Technical Advice on Organic Production. EGTOP The Group shall provide technical advice on any matter relating to the area of organic production and in particular it must assist the Commission in evaluating products, substances and techniques which can be used in organic production, improving existing rules and developing new production rules and in bringing about an exchange of experience and good practices in the field of organic production. -

Eichel is ninth in the NHL with 62 points, scoring 28 goals and totaling 34 assists. The Sabres are 11-13-4 against Eastern Conference opponents. Buffalo has converted on 19.2% of power-play opportunities, scoring 28 power-play goals. The Senators are 6-7-4 against the rest of their division. The courting period has provided the Winnipeg Jets with the opportunity to express interest in several players they'd like to pursue come Saturday when the window to sign unrestricted free agents officially opens. Several players — including goalies Steve Mason and Brian Elliott and defenceman Karl Alzner, among others — have at least demonstrated some level of interest in joining the Jets. It's important to remember: for agents, the courting period is the time to drum up additional interest for the client. And a lot can happen between now and Saturday. Another team can swoop in with a bigger offer or provide an additional year or higher dollar amount to seal the deal. But the Jets go into this weekend with two distinct needs at the top of the wish list: an experienced starting goalie to share the net with Connor Hellebuyck and a defenceman who can play the left side, preferably a left-handed shooter. Historically, the Jets haven't been a team to swing for the fences or overpay to land a marquee name on July 1. Veteran centre Olli Jokinen was a place-holder and his signing in 2012 allowed Mark Scheifele to get some additional seasoning at the junior level before he was ready to be a full-time NHLer.
