Tin-Tan

Germán Genaro Cipriano Valdés Castillo better known as Tin-Tan, was an actor, singer and comedian. He was born on September 19, 1915 in Mexico City, but grew up and started his career in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. He usually wore “the pachuco” dress and spoke “pachuco” slang or language in most of his movies. It was a combination of Spanish and English expressions, common among Mexican immigrants. Tin-Tan made this language famous in Mexico. He was a famous artist during the golden years of movie making in Mexico. “Calabacitas tiernas” (1948) was one of the best comedy movies in Mexican cinema at that time. He worked with many beautiful actresses such as Marga Lopez, Silvia Pinal and Rosita Quintana and he also collaborated closely with actress and comedian Fannie Kauffman, who was famous for her character of Vitola. Tin- Tan’s brothers Manuel "El Loco" Valdés and Ramón Valdés participated in some of his movies. After many years of fame, Tin-Tan became ill with hepatitis and cancer and died at the age of 58 on June 29, 1973.
