Taking a look around the horn of Section 14:

With the beginning of the new soccer year around the corner, AYSO Section 14 is unveiling our new section motto- One Goal….One Section. My vision is to bring our section even closer together. I propose to increase more advanced coach and referee trainings given by section and area personnel. I want us to focus on facilitating more dialogue to enhance ways for all of our regions to obtain more volunteers. We are actively looking for a sponsor for our regional VIP programs so that not one parent in the VIP program has to pay to have their children participate. We will try to increase our section and area based staffs so that we can all be more productive and feel less stressed while accomplishing more. There are a lot of very talented people in our programs just waiting to be asked and trained. And spreading the love of AYSO to more people. Our section is one of the most passionate of all of AYSO and our goal of One Goal….One Section will bring us eventually to be the flagship of all sections within the program.

It is that time of year where we need to make sure that our section , area and regional board positions are filled by registered, certified volunteers. Please take the month of July to concentrate on making sure that all of your boards are fully staffed, that each of your volunteer board members register online at www.eayso.org as a volunteer for the 2013-2014 season (registration must be done each year), that each of your volunteers has been certified for Safe Haven (which is offered online) and that they are certified in the positions that they serve (webinars are given each month for certification- I will be announcing each month the upcoming webinars).

Registrations for the fall soccer seasons are underway throughout Section 14. For information on how to register a player, please go to the various regional websites. These websites are listed under the link “About AYSO” on our section website www.aysosection14.org.

The National Games Lottery took place at the NAGM in Washington DC on Sunday May 26th. The teams that have been selected through the lottery have been announced. Click the following link to see if your region received an invite for the 2014 National Games in California http://apps.ayso.org/ng/lotteryinfo.php All selected teams will get an information packet shortly. The 2014 AYSO National Games will be played in Torrance and Riverside California from June 29, 2014 through July 6, 2014. Detailed information about the tournament can be reviewed on the AYSO National Website www.ayso.org . Congratulations to all teams which have been selected from our section.

AYSO Section 14 held our 2013 Section Meetings June 21-23 at the Kovens Conference Center at the FIU Campus in Miami Florida. The weekend was highlighted with multiple certification courses included coach and referee instructor courses. Also courses in management and marketing along with EAYSO were also offered. Saturday afternoon brought keynote speaker Tom Mulroy, President of the Ft Lauderdale Strikers and former world record holder for continuous juggling of soccer balls, as well as many raffles of autographed pro soccer jerseys, NBA jersey, autographed tennis rackets and a week at a Naples Florida Resort. The 2014 section meeting will be announced shortly. We hope that all that went will come back and bring more volunteers next year.

Regional Assessment Program Forms and Area Assessment Program Forms are now due. Regional Commissioners should fill out the RAP and submit it to their area director as soon as possible. Area directors should fill out the AAP and submit it to me by August 1. The link to obtain the download of the RAP is http://ayso.org/region_boards/regional_commissioner/rap.aspx The link to obtain the download of the AAP is http://ayso.org/areas_sections/areas/aap.aspx

Has your region submitted their budgets for the 2013-2014 season into national? If not, they were due June 1. If you have not please do so immediately. If you need any help please contact your area director.

AYSO Section 14 will be having an intermediate coach course to be held in West Palm Beach at Okeeheelee Park on Saturday July 20 and Sunday July 21. You can register for the course on EAYSO or by contacting Rose Arsenault at [email protected]

New Section 14 tournament director, Alan Dagen, has announced that beginning with the 2014 AYSO State Games, we will have a college showcase as part of the festivities. We will be inviting college coaches from around Florida as well as from colleges throughout the United States to come to our State Games for the sole purpose of locating potential athletes who they can offer full and partial scholarships to. We will be sending regions information as to how to compile player information for players in the U19 age divisions. These packets can be given to these college coaches at the college showcase. Region 644 did this a few years ago and 5 players received college scholarships based on their packets and one weekend of games.

Within the next few months we are going to propose new area boundaries based on county lines. These boundaries will need to be approved not only by regions and areas but will need to go to the National Board of Directors of AYSO to approve. Existing regions who may be affected by the change would be granted the ability to grandfather into their existing area if they so desire. We believe that we can more effectively administer the programs with a better defined boundary for each area. Specific counties and regions that have more in common with each other such as demographics should be placed together in the same area if at all possible.

Areas L and J have announced area road shows during the month of August, 2013. Area L will be holding their road show in Wildwood Florida August 23-25 while Area J will be holding theirs August 16-18. Further details will be forthcoming. Road shows are geared to providing a central place to receive discipline tract education and certifications. Courses will be given related to coach and referee certifications through intermediate and advanced levels as well as management courses, instruction courses and on site courses for the seven required board positions (treasurer, coach administrator, CVPA etc).

AYSO Section 14 has started a Twitter account to help you stay up to date on all that is going on in the section. Go ahead and “Friend” AYSOSection14 to receive all of the updates for coach and ref courses and interesting tidbits going on throughout the State of Florida.
