Faculty Senate Council Meeting February 28, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. MINUTES
PRESENT: Greg Page, Marietta Frank, Kim Bailey, Ernie Kallenbach, Dick Melka, David Merwine, Trisha Morris, and Jesse Steinberg
Items of Business:
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Jesse Steinberg to approve the minutes from the February 14, 2012 Faculty Senate Council meeting. David Merwine seconded the motion. Minutes were approved.
Next Faculty Senate Council Meeting: March 13, 2012 in the Academic Dean’s Conference Room at 11:30 a.m.
Next Full Faculty Senate Meeting: March 27, 2012 in Fisher Hall 107 (Rice Auditorium) at 11:30 a.m.
New Faculty Senate President: Jesse Steinberg has been elected as the new Faculty Senate President for Bradford. The 2012-2013 Pitt-Bradford Senate Standing Committees was distributed to council representatives and emailed to all faculty after the council meeting. Currently Steinberg is on other Senate Committees. Page will work with Steve Robar, Division Chair, to fill Steinberg’s other committee obligations.
Senate Committee Reports: Faculty Standing Committees and ad-hoc committees have the option to either give a yearly report at the last Faculty Senate meeting or to email the report to the Faculty Secretary, Kim Bailey. The council decided it wanted all committees to provide an oral report at the final Faculty Senate meeting on March 27, 2012; Greg will contact committee chairs to prepare a two-minute report at the Faculty Senate meeting.
University of Pittsburgh Assembly Meeting Update: John Slimick attended the university assembly meeting in Pittsburgh and submitted to council the updated Guidelines for Search Committees for Senior Academic Administrators. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of this document should contact the Kim Bailey.
Faculty Web Page: Bailey has been working on the faculty website located at: http://www.upb.pitt.edu/facultysenate.aspx . EPC minutes are now available online. Council members suggested adding links to the policy and procedures pages and to the Provost’s office page. These links will be added in the near future.
Faculty Constitution: The Faculty Constitution is currently within the Tenure document. Bailey requested that a web link replace the document so the current version is always available. Motion to change Faculty Constitution to a web link in the Tenure document was made by Steinberg and seconded by Kallenbach. Motion passed.
A motion to adjourn was made by Steinberg; Kallenbach seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
