JOB TITLE: SHIFT SUPERVISOR
SUMMARY: Effectively direct, manage, motivate and develop a shift of manufacturing employees while maximizing safety awareness, production efficiencies and production quality.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Production Manager
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage assigned area of manufacturing facility troubleshooting problems, providing plant with production efficiency information, preparing for special projects, coordinating equipment modifications and conducting trials with proper reporting.
Track, analyze and report all production efficiencies (i.e., waste, efficiencies, non-chargeable downtime, etc.) to the Department Manager on a daily basis.
Manage production machinery changeover process ensuring maximum efficiencies and meeting or exceeding established standards.
Enforce and provide adherence to all housekeeping and sanitation policies and procedures.
Prepare and submit all required reports on a timely basis (i.e., monthly highlights).
Provide “off shift” management to Maintenance and Shipping/Receiving departmental employees and report all appropriate supervisory information to respective departmental managers.
Conduct informative monthly safety meetings with all shift employees ensuring established agenda is followed. Participate in all required accident investigations (providing accident investigation team leadership) ensuring immediate root cause elimination.
Participate in all manufacturing recruiting efforts including interviewing candidates and making hiring recommendations. Provide consistent, fair and legal corrective action for all employees. Prepare and conduct all employee performance evaluations. Develop, monitor and actualize employee development goal. Make recommendations for training.
Educate all employees in and provide continuous support for all American Packaging Corporation safety efforts (including the STOP Safety Program). Shift Supervisor Job Description Page 2
Able to work all scheduled shifts and overtime as assigned.
Other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Manager.
Business travel required.
Must successfully complete first aid/CPR/first responder requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for entire shift of manufacturing employees and, during second and third shifts, the Maintenance and Shipping/ Receiving departments.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
