Quote of the Week:  “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss if enthusiasm.” Winston Churchill

Announcements:  Beginning Monday, 1/14/13, the two walk through gates closest to the bus loop from the parking lot behind building 500 will be locked and remain locked. For the convenience of staff parking in that parking lot, the walk-through gate closest to the sidewalk and building 600 will be the only gate left unlocked. It will become a “duty station” in the mornings in order to keep parents and students from coming on campus from that direction. The sign on the gate clearly says that students may not be dropped off there and adults must go through the front office and obtain a visitor pass. It will be locked at 8:35 when morning duty is over.

 Please make sure that if you unlock a gate to pass through at any time of the day, you re-lock that gate before you leave. The double doors on either side of the office will be closed at the end of parent pick-up each day. ELC parents will need to use the bus loop entrance after 3:30. I close and lock the bus loop gates every morning after the last bus leaves. It will not be unlocked again until 2:30 (1:30— Wed.) in the afternoon.

 Employees in the 400 and 600 buildings will notice that the halls have been painted. The painters have informed us that the walls must be kept free of tape or glue for the next three weeks so that the paint can cure. Please make sure that for the next three weeks nothing gets attached to the walls in these buildings.  Congratulations to the Writer’s of the Month for December: Katie Reynolds (Bury); Hailey Everett (Carter); Shania Delpino (Grunewald); Damaso Landor (O’Dell); Hunter Gleason (Odum); Abby Logel (Ross).

 The FLDOE is in the process of developing assessments for K-8 math, science, English language arts, social studies, and Spanish courses, and they are in need of additional item writers and reviewers. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity tak a look at the link below: http://info.fldoe.org/docushare/dsweb/Get/Document-6597/dps-2012-205.pdf

 We will have several new employees joining our team over the next few weeks. Please give these folks a warm Villages welcome: o Custodian – Robert Bowen (already started) o Title 1 Reading Teacher – Jen Beliveau o Title 1 Math Teacher – Kathy Sawyer o Literacy Coach – Heather Culbreath

 Apple-Mart is open to those teachers with the 2013 green pass and the 2013 New Teacher pass. All three locations are open and ready for business. If you would like a 2013 green pass please see Mr. Bordenkircher – first come first served.

 Message from PTO – I wanted to let you all know about a new fundraiser PTO is doing for the school. If you go to www.fuelmyschool.com and type village in the search box, it will pull our school up and when you click on it there will be a place that says shop your mall. When you buy from any of these stores online we get a percentage of the sale back in dollars for the school. There is no extra cost added on the items and there are a ton of different stores that include Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon, even Costume Express. We will be sending out a letter for parents but I wanted to go ahead and let you know.

 eSembler news: Over the summer we upgraded to the latest version of eSembler, which includes a few new features for teachers, most of which are highlighted on the attachment. We are also excited about the fact that eSembler will now be loaded with the Common Core State Standards! (C2Ready!!) So teachers will be able to attach CCSS in the same way that they have been attaching NGSSS.

Cheers!:  Cheers! Here are some highlights from last week: o Shiela Ross – Sheila has been an invaluable resource for the substitute teachers in Shannon Carter’s class. She has been providing lesson plans and grading papers in order to keep the class moving forward. And… o Bonnie Binneveld – Bonnie has volunteered and to enter grades for Shannon’s class. What a great team! o Villages Elementary Staff – Great job on the emergency lock-down drill. We learned many things that will help us do a better job next time. Expect to have at least one more of those before the end of the year.
