Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have received notification that Acme, the transportation company that provides small buses, is involved in contract negotiations with its labor unions, and that during those negotiations, there have been threats of a strike by its bus drivers. If a strike occurs, it could disrupt bus service for up to 300 children in our district. Please be advised that this will affect all students transported by Acme small buses to Meadow, Plaza, Baldwin Middle School, Baldwin High School and Hastings Academy, as well as some private or parochial students.

While both sides in the negotiations have stated in the news media that they are working with a federal mediator in an attempt to settle their contract dispute, we are concerned about the impact of a potential strike on our students and families, and we want you to be prepared in the event one does occur. We are in the process of trying to secure alternate transportation to bus our affected students safely in the event of a strike, but many school districts could be affected, and it is unclear at this point whether adequate coverage could be secured immediately. We will keep you updated regarding our plans in the event of a strike as they become finalized.
