ASSESSMENT SCIENCE 10 Course Outline: 2016/17

Assessment Weight

Unit Project Portfolio

 Students will have to collect certain work completed throughout the unit into a 10% Unit project portfolio  These may include but are not limited to, research projects, labs, presentations and other additional assignments or worksheets.

Unit Quizzes

 There will be 2-3 quizzes written throughout each unit. These assessments are not eligible for rewrites so make sure that you complete required work before 20% and review the material to study.  If it is found that a student is not keeping up with their classroom work, the student will be required to sign-up for GL sessions until they can show they have caught up on the required material.

Unit Exams: 4 exams written over the course of the semester.

 Exams dates are set following the end of each unit.  These exams are eligible for a re-write, on a date set by the teacher and in 40% accordance with the rewrite policy.  All students that receive a grade of less than 75% are required to complete corrections and must do so in GL time before the re-write date, regardless of whether or not they are re-writing.

Final Exam 30%  Final Exam will be written during the school designated Exam week.

Rewrite Policy:

1. In order to qualify for a re-write, the student must have completed all required classroom work and have written the first write of the exam.

2. Corrections on first exam must be completed, showing correct answers, including all work. This must be done during a required GL session before the re-write date

3. Additional work must be completed, showing all work and checked.

Classroom Work POLICY Throughout the course, students will be assigned work from their workbook mostly (additional work may be required) in order to reinforce concepts taught and provide practice for calculation questions. There will be class time to work on this at the end of each lesson. If the student is unable to finish in the classroom time provided they will have to complete it on their own time such as GL time, at home, before or after school, during lunch or any other time that works for the student. Classroom work will consist of completion of notes, required questions and additional assignments so students are able to accurately determine if they understand a concept. Students are welcome to bring problems they have attempted from their homework to class or GL sessions to receive extra help if necessary.

GL TIME MAY BE USED TO COMPLETE CLASSROOM WORK AND PROJECTS IF THE STUDENT DOES NOT HAVE OTHER MANDATORY WORK TO COMPLETE OR IS NOT REQUIRED BY ANOTHER TEACHER.
