Location: Paterson Public Library, Paterson, NJ

Welcome CDC Chair, Jessica Diaz called the meeting to order at 10:20 a.m. and welcomed everyone. Moment of Silence was done remembering those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Moment of Silence In Attendance: Present: Absent: Attendance Kathleen DeMichele, Anjettica Boatwright, Nick Kubisky, Jessica Diaz, Ron Sonye Elaine Halstead, Gregory Kelly, Vernon Thomas, Guests: Karol Soto Mark Anderson, late Paula Tenebruso, late Minutes Elaine Halstead moved to approve the August 26, 2014, Minutes with necessary corrections and 2nd by Kathleen DeMichele. The Minutes were approved with no corrections. One Action was closed. Vote: 4-YES, 0-NO, 3-Abstain REPORT OF THE CDC There was no formal report. CHAIR Membership Report CDC-Membership Report was provided by Admin MJ. Admin, MJ The discussion of recruitment strategies, highlighting Hispanics of Bergen County was discussed. Michele Machado of the Hispanic Multi-purpose Service Center will be contacted to inquire of a potential date that the CDC can come to do recruitment at the Center. MJ will contact. Vernon Thomas of Bergen Family Center will be participating in an event geared towards Hispanics in Englewood on October 15th on Palisade Ave, West Bergen Mental Health. He will distribute PC recruitment materials. Membership Report Cont’d Candidates for Removal and potential Candidates were discussed as provided in the Admin, MJ Membership Report. There are now 29 members and potential removal of one other member. There are six applications pending, and potential of one more being received. One applicant withdrew his application. Two candidates have completed their meeting attendance requirements.

DAY OF CAPACITY DAY OF CAPACITY CDC Chairman, Jessica Diaz reported that revisions had to be made on the giveaways. It was changed from giving a journal to a “Team” bag. She stated that the menu remained as discussed at the last meeting. The admin provided the agenda that had been sent by the facilitator, Paula Toynton. It was determined that the following would take place:

 Start time: 9:00 – 9:30 (Continental Breakfast)  An Hour lunch  Also there was discrepancy of what would happen between 11:15- 11:45 (unidentified time); Jessica will clarify with the facilitator.  Add to the Agenda: Welcome by Gregory Kelly and Introduction by Jessica Diaz  Elaine Halstead will come early to do DOC registration. Jessica will reprint the Part A primers for the DOC, Elaine will also help with this  MJ is to try and have copies/folders ready for Tuesday so Jessica can add Primers. Guest, Karól Soto of Hyacinth, attended to present and assist with the upcoming October 17, 2014 PSA. He will be the person doing the PSA at Cablevision. The PSA will be done in English and Spanish. The target audience is Latino men.

After a long discussion, below is the final PSA product in English & Spanish, as decided upon by Karól Soto and the CDC.

Hermano: Don't ask the HIV positive men to care for you, care for yourself. I have this virus people stigmatize. Some people have stopped talking to me because of it. Don't put your health in someone else's hand. Take ownership! Empower yourself. Condoms protect us from HIV. Get tested.

Hermano: No le pidas al hombre con VIH que te proteja, protégete a ti mismo. Tengo este virus que la gente estigmatiza. Ha habido gente que me dejo de hablar. No pongas tu salud en las manos de otros. Empodérate! Toma control. Los condones nos protegen del VIH. Hazte la prueba.

P a g e 2 of 4 “World AIDS Day Chairperson, Jessica Diaz, stated that she had received an email from Donna Nelson-Ivy regarding World AIDS Day and the Council’s 20th Anniversary Celebration.

Suggestions during the CDC meeting were: Potentially developing a Poster for WAD and additionally the fact that the PC is celebrating 20th year. Also stated was the idea of the PC celebrating its 20th Anniversary and being commended for THEIR work of 20 years.

Elaine Halstead stated that the budget wasn’t known. Elaine, identified at the PC meeting as the co-chair for the 20th Celebration, has spoken with Donna who volunteered to work with Elaine. Out of the discussion arose the need for Elaine to bring back the ideas of the CDC to help establish a budget and help with further planning.

Contact: Kathleen Donavan, County executive, for WAD events for Bergen Donna Nelson-Ivy, for Paterson and Passaic County WAD events

Action: Jessica will see if there is a budget for a Poster and materials to distribute at the events. Also is there budget for a reception celebration for the PC? Also Jessica stated that the facilitator of the Day of Capacity is going to weave in the 20th Anniversary.

MJ will check with Denise to get printing done with Consent, the printer of the City of Paterson.

Potential - “Bergen/Passaic HIV Planning Council commemorates World AIDS Day as it celebrates its 20th Year Anniversary.”

Action: MJ will send out request to PC and Providers to secure their WAD events.
