JOB TITLE: Tree Trimmer I

PAY GRADE:

REPORTS TO: Forestry Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Forestry Supervisor, plants, trims, and removes trees and shrubs according to American Society of Arborists Standards and safety specifications.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Utilizes chain saws, hand saws, pole pruners, climbing gear, and trucks with hydraulic extensions to trim excess or dead branches from trees.

2. Removes dead or diseased trees, securing with ropes for safety purposes.

3. Plants and maintains trees according to specifications.

4. Operates specialized power equipment including chippers, stump grinders, tree spades, Hi-Ranger, and winch truck.

5. Plants and maintains tulip beds according to specifications.

6. Assists in storm clean up activities by removing damaged limbs or fallen trees.

7. Performs a variety of general maintenance chores including but not limited to setting up tents, hanging banners, and mowing grass.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1. The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of high school, with additional specialized training in Horticulture, Forestry, or a related field.

2. CDL Class B Certification, Electrical Hazard Awareness Certification, and HiLo License required.

3. One to two years experience in forestry maintenance activities, including knowledge of industrial safety standards for logging and tree trimming.

4. Interpersonal skills necessary to manage the activities of a small, diverse group of employees and work productively with all levels of City personnel and the general public.

5. Mental ability to frequently handle pressures related to fulfilling schedule requirements, and dealing with the concerns of citizens and employees.

6. Physical ability to frequently lift/push/pull/transport equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to frequently climb/bend/stoop/crawl to accommodate different working positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Work includes outside working conditions with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold weather conditions.

2. Work includes periodic exposure to fumes, odors, dust, dirt, noise, moving objects, and hazardous materials.

3. Work includes frequent exposure to environmental hazards associated with electrical, mechanical and/or power equipment.
