Event: Burning Moon public eclipse party Date: September 27, 2015 8:30PM-11:30PM (Weather permitting) Sponsor: Penobscot Valley Star Gazers (PVSG) Place: Bangor Municipal Golf Course parking lot Local astronomers will turn their telescopes toward the Burning Moon Eclipse Sunday evening for everyone's enjoyment. All ages are welcome to join them at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course parking lot on Webster Avenue in Bangor. The total eclipse will be a treat for everyone and the telescope views will enhance the experience by providing close-ups of the moon and other celestial targets while the moon is dark. Astronomers from the Penobscot Valley Star Gazer club will be explaining the sights for all who come to take a look Sunday September 27 8:30-11:30 PM weather permitting. . FREE. The sky must be clear to see the moon, so if there is cloud cover, please check (www.Gazers.Org) for announcements of any change of plan. What Makes This Eclipse Special?  This is a perfect storm of moon viewing with the Harvest Moon being a super moon- so called because it is the closest full moon of 2015- and a total eclipse.  This eclipse begins at 9:07PM that September Sunday evening, making it a family friendly event, and it is the last total lunar eclipse Mainers can enjoy for more than three years to come.  This super Harvest Moon will appear 14% larger being only about 222,000 miles distant- about 17,000 miles closer than its average distance, and a Harvest Moon is always striking to the eye.
