HALOWEEN DRESS GUIDELINES

October 19, 2009

Dear Parents:

An optional Halloween Dress Up Day has been scheduled for October 30.

In light of the current political climate around the world, dress related to military or terrorist organizations, or anything that could be construed as offensive to any ethnic group, will not be allowed.

Students: As you plan your costume, please keep these guidelines in mind:

1. The costume should be appropriate for school. 2. The costume should be tasteful. Underclothing/lingerie is not appropriate as a costume 3. The costume should not hamper the student’s responsibility of carrying school supplies or being seated in class. Costumes that require carrying extra and/or unsafe items such as: skateboards, surfboards, swords, guns, spears are not acceptable. 4. No baby bottles or pajamas. No pacifiers, false teeth, or anything placed in mouth. Also, no boys dressed as girls or vice versa. 5. Costumes should not reflect graphic violence or gang affiliation. Students should keep in mind that the staff will be evaluating the day’s activities. We are looking for a safe and successful day. 6. Costumes should not restrict students from dressing out for P.E. 7. No face or pullover masks. Also, no excessive facial makeup. Makeup should not be brought to school, including i.e., tubes of cream, hair color spray, blood, etc. 8. Hats as part of the costumes are permitted. 9. Footwear must be safe and supportive. No sandals, Birkenstocks, etc. 10. No silly string or toy-like accessories.

The success of this day, as always, will impact consideration of future Halloween dress up.
