Achievements:

• Summer 2010 co-directed the 15th annual Camp Eeze-The-Wheeze and KIDDs Kamp. • Provided asthma education to the asthmatic children in the primary and intermediate buildings in all 4 Howard County school corporations during a sabbatical in fall 2006. • On September 28, 2001 was awarded the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nursing’s (AWHONN) Indiana Section Award of Excellence in “Education” at the state meeting. • Fall 2003 directed the 3rd annual Becoming A Teen Workshop in collaboration with the Higgins Women’s Center. • In 2000 was awarded Indiana University’s Teaching Excellence Recognition Award. • Completed major course revisions for the new BSN (1999) and ASN (2001) curriculums, including extensive work on a workable graded clinical which previously had been graded as satisfactory/fail. • Initiated interactive computer-based programs (1997) in weekly learning labs for both curriculums. • Introduced a community-based teaching experience (1996) in the BSN course utilizing the American Cancer Society’s Triple Touch Breast and Cervical Health program. • Began a community-based experience (1995) in the ASN course with home- follow up visits after discharge from the hospital.

1995-1998 “Identification of Psychosocial Needs of Older Primigravidas”. Co-Investigator with Dorothy Walker on this qualitative research project.

1995-1998 “Baby Steps” Game In collaboration with my students a prenatal education game was developed. Game board, playing pieces, and prenatal questions were developed with the students.

1987-1989 Researched the effects of infertility on a woman’s self-concept with two co-investigators for Master’s thesis.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE: COMMUNITY

Camp Eeze-the-Wheeze and Kids With Insulin Dependent Diabetes (KIDDS) Kamp.

Co-direct a week-long day camp for children, ages 6-16, who have asthma or diabetes. IUK students are the camp counselors and teach the daily asthma and diabetes lessons. 18 Camp Eeze-the-Wheeze/KIDDs Kamp

*In 2000 the Indiana Division of the American Cancer Society discontinued the Triple Touch Breast and Cervical Health Instructor training program and substituted the Tell-A-Friend Program which focuses on mammogram awareness for early breast cancer detection.

19 Health Promotion and Education for Girls Beginning in 1999 pediatric content was added to my maternity courses. Besides teaching health topics in the school classrooms the students have opportunities to teach groups of children in the community setting. See table below for list of workshops presented.
