Comments/Explanations

Jockey David Pires submitted a medical certificate prior to the first race, declaring him fit to fulfil his riding engagements today.

Following his ride in Race 3, Jockey Brendon McCoull advised Stewards that due to illness, he would be unable to fulfil his remaining riding engagements today. Brendon McCoull was advised that he must submit a medical certificate prior to riding in trackwork, trials or races.

RACE 1 – RAINE & HORNE HOBART BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Correct weight was delayed when Trainer Mark Everett and Jockey Shuji Amano (Hold Onto Your Hat) asked to view the official film of the home straight. After doing so both parties were satisfied and correct weight was declared.

On jumping Savvy Princess (NZ) shifted out and bumped with Seven Falls. Shortly after, Savvy Princess shifted in and made contact with No Go Zone.

Hold Onto Your Hat was slow into stride (1L).

No Go Zone had to be steadied off the heels of Bag Of Monkeys near the 800 metres.

Passing the 800 metres, Apprentice Ismail Toker (Bag of Monkeys) allowed the gelding to shift in when insufficiently clear of No Go Zone which had to be steadied. Stewards issued Apprentice Toker with a reprimand under AR 137 (a) careless riding. In not taking more severe action, Stewards took into account that the degree of interference was of a low level.

Hold Onto Your Hat (S Amano) was held up for a clear run to the inside of Bag Of Monkeys near the 250 metres until passing the 200 metres when Shuji Amano elected to shift out to obtain a clear run.

Jockey Talia Rodder (No Go Zone) pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 137A(5)(a) (i), the particulars being that she used her whip in a forehand manner in consecutive strides. After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Jockey Rodder’s recent record in relation to this rule, she was issued with a reprimand. RACE 2 – RAINE & HORNE EASTERN SHORE 2YO HANDICAP – 900 METRES

Gee Gees Talk Fest was slow into stride.

Nikita’s girl jumped awkwardly and bumped with Marie Clare.

Geegees Gran Lodge jumped awkwardly before shifting in, bumping with and hampering Siorca.

Shortly after the start, Gee Gees Top Notch shifted in and tightened Geegees Gran Lodge in onto Siorca. Shortly after this, Nikita’s Girl had to be steadied off the heels of Marie Clare which was carried in by Siorca.

Marie Clare was inclined to hang out making the 600 metre turn. Marie Clare then hung for the remainder of the race.

RACE 3 – ROGERSON & BIRCH SURVEYORS 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1000 METRES

Trainer Scott Brunton was fined $50 under LR 25.14 (a) (ii) for failing to gain prior approval for a gear change on Follow My Dust to wear a barrier blanket today.

Stewards granted permission for Jockey Grant Challinger to replace Jockey Daniel Ganderton on Hirvonen when Jockey Ganderton was unavailable. Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the reasons for this.

The start of this race was delayed when Victory Medal proved difficult to load. Stewards advised Trainer Rhonda Hall that a warning has been placed on Victory Medal due to its barrier manners.

Failed Then Passed, Follow My Dust and Victory Medal were all slow into stride (1L).

Peace Keeper jumped awkwardly.

Hirvonen had to be steadied approaching the 600 metres when Aim For The Moon was carried in by Hyperbole.

Near the 600 metres, Danzqui (Hayley McCarthy (a)) crossed to the rail. Peace Keeper, which was following, had to be steadied for several strides by its rider. Stewards issued Apprentice McCarthy with a severe reprimand under AR 137(a) careless riding and reminded her to ensure she is fully clear when in similar circumstances.

Near the 600 metres, Islandsinthestream laid in and tightened the running of Etown which had to be steadied by its rider.

Near the 400 metres, That’s What We Do laid out until entering the home straight where it commenced to lay in.

Peace Keeper laid in approaching the 200 metres before shifting and bumping with Islandsinthestream.

Follow My Dust (David Pires) laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight and then again over the concluding stages resulting in the rider being unable to ride the gelding out fully to the line.

Danzqui was held up for a clear run behind Miss Mars near the 250 metres.

Jockey Brendon McCoull (Hyperbole) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 145 and was fined $100 in that he returned to scale one kilogram over the filly’s allotted weight. RACE 4 – RAINE & HORNE KINGSTON 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1400 METRES

Mikaylas Raider jumped inwards at the start inconveniencing Eternal Dream.

Incumsdacash raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Don’t Be Nasty shifted out passing the 300 metres and brushed with Incumsdacash.

Jockey Daniel Ganderton was harmlessly dislodged from Rangaondarun shortly after passing the winning post and was examined by the on-course ambulance paramedics who declared him fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

Lady Spencer suffered an attack of colic after this race and was treated by the Veterinary Surgeon.

Jockey Daniel Ganderton reported that Rangaondarun hung out throughout.

RACE 5 – CAMBRIDGE MOTO MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1550 METRES

The start of this race was delayed due to a sprinkler being broken when the barriers were moved to the 1600 metre start. The start distance then had to be amended to approximately 1550 metres because of the condition of the track.

The start of this race was delayed when Rest Upon had to be re-saddled behind the barriers. Trainer Royston Carr pleaded guilty to incorrectly saddling Rest Upon and was fined $200 under AR 140A(2), $100 of which was wholly suspended for twelve months.

Sir Halliday blundered on jumping.

Ho Hey laid out near the 1400 metres, tightening Fairly French.

Young Robin was caught three wide in the early stages.

Young Robin laid in making the home turn.

Sir Halliday became unbalanced when placed under pressure upon entering the home straight.

RACE 6 – LYDEN BUILDERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Ginga Boy underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection prior to the start as it had not raced for over 12 months and was subsequently passed fit to take its place in the field.

Prior to the start of this race, Mr Gary White, the trainer of Little Streaker advised Stewards that he will be instructing apprentice Rhonda Mangan to endeavour to ride the mare further back in the field than at its previous starts. This information was disseminated via social media and the Course Broadcaster. Little Streaker was ridden according to the change in tactics today.

Little Streaker jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride (1L).

Ginga Boy was slow into stride (1L).

Up Cups shifted in despite the efforts of its rider soon after the start, tightening Valdez in on to Ginga Boy which was checked.

Little Streaker over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event and passing the 800 metres, shifted in when being steadied off the heels of Erin’s Element which had also shifted in marginally.

Passing the 600 metres Erin’s Element, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in away from Strictly Romance (Georgie Catania (a)) resulting in Little Streaker which was racing on the rail, being checked and losing its position. As a result of Little Streaker losing its position, Vedo which was following, also had to be checked, shifted out before bumping with Valdez. Upon inquiry, it was established that Erin’s Element had commenced to over-race prior to this incident and then when there was a marginal shift from Strictly Romance (Georgie Catania (a)), Erin’s Element threw its head in the air and shifted in resulting in Little Streaker being checked. Apprentice Georgie Catania was advised to exercise more care in future.

Little Streaker laid out making the home turn and also in the home straight.

Up Cups commenced to lay in under pressure near the 200 metres and continued to do so for the remainder of the race.

When questioned on the apparent change of tactics for Shezastig today, Apprentice Hayley McCarthy stated that due to the wide barrier today, she elected to take up a forward position rather than be caught wide. Apprentice McCarthy also stated that due to previous wide barrier draws, the mare had raced further back in the field.

RACE 7 – TONGS SHEET METAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

Milson underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection prior to the start and was subsequently passed fit to take its place in the field.

Zarimby was slightly slow into stride.

Jockey Shuji Amano (Milson) reported that his horse laid in throughout.

RACE 8 – TONY CARRICK 3YO VASE HANDICAP – NO CLAIMS – 1100 METRES

Sentimental Dream blundered on jumping and lost ground. Sentimental Dream raced wide thereafter.

Approaching the 100 metres, Geegees Doublejay laid in under pressure and had to be straightened by its rider.

Geegees Doublejay (David Pires) shifted out from behind the heels of Just Call Me Fred making the 600 metre turn and carried Sentimental Dream wider on the track. Jockey David Pires was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in the future.

Concrete Johnny commenced to lose ground and failed to respond to its rider from approximately the 400 metres. A post-race veterinary inspection of Concrete Johnny failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 9 – RAINE & HORNE SORELL BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 1550 METRES

The start distance of this race had to be amended to approximately 1550 metres because of the condition of the track due to the sprinkler being broken at the 1600 metre start.

Near the 900 metres, Hugo (Corey Parish) shifted in to obtain a position on the rail when not fully clear of Prom King resulting in Talia Rodder having to steady her mount. Stewards issued Jockey Corey Parish with a reprimand under AR 137 (a) careless riding. In not taking more severe action, Stewards took into account that the degree of interference was of a low level.

Approaching the 400 metres, Hugo was held up for a clear run.

Apprentice Mehmet Ulucinar, the rider of Jay Bee’s Gee Gee which performed below expectations today, explained that the gelding failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres.

Jockey David Pires, the rider of Cherry Dancer which performed below expectations today, explained that in his opinion the mare laid in from the 900 metres and then failed to respond to his riding. A post- race veterinary inspection of Cherry Dancer failed to reveal any abnormalities.
