COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course examines elements of Canadian and international law in social, political, and global contexts. Students will study the historical and philosophical sources of law and the principles and practices of international law and will learn to relate them to issues in Canadian society and the wider world. Students will use critical-thinking and communication skills to analyse legal issues, conduct independent research, and present the results of their inquiries in a variety of ways.

EXPECTATIONS:

 Regular attendance– Missed tests, presentations and assignments will constitute a mark of zero unless the student calls my voice mail the morning of his/her absence with an explanation # 55802  Attendance is critical for success in this course as evaluations are often based on class discussions, relevant videos and in class research. The student is expected to catch up on his/her own time.  Contribution to Classroom Discussions– although you may not always feel comfortable expressing an opinion, it is expected that you will give other students your full attention at all times.  Timely completion of assignments– if you cannot meet a deadline, let me know in advance and we will try to work out a mutually acceptable compromise– DO NOT RISK A ZERO!!
