Streetscape Phase II s1

Streetscape Phase II Thursday, July 28, 2005 Community Room – 8:00 a.m.

Those present at the meeting were: Pat Stoll, Gordon Wolf, Brent Weithorn, Dick Knowles, Gordon Hough, Mark Wiener, Terry Crawford, Jodie Hast and Ken Livingston.

 Mark Wiener said that construction will continue on South Main next week. They will do the manhole on South Main after the alley is open. The manhole will take about two days depending on the weather. Mark said that depending on the weather, they should be done with South Main in two to three weeks. Sewalson Landscaping and Lohrman Electric will be here next week also.

 Butch Huebner would like to place a water fountain in the node by his property. Butch said that there is a fountain like the one he is wanting in Schleswig at the United Church of Christ. Terry will be in Schleswig today and will check it out and get back to the City.

 The electrical work and landscaping are caught up on the North side of Broadway. The North side of Broadway is basically done except for the plants.

 Dick Knowles was concerned about the planter care on Phase II. Ken Livingston said that the landscaper has a maintenance agreement stating that he has to replace all greenery for two years after planted if something does not live. Mark Wiener said that it should take two to three years before the plant growth is where the City wants it to be. Terry Crawford will call Kevin Strehle from Ciaccio to see if he will come up and hold a meeting for the merchants on the landscaping and answer questions regarding blooming plants and why these plants were chosen for this project.

 Gordon Hough brought up the idea of adopt-a-planter. Ken Livingston said that the City is probably going to contract the planter care through a landscaper. There will be better control over the planters if the City has someone obligated to maintain them.

 Dick Knowles would like the City to bring in pictures of cities with successful streetscape planters. He would like to have the City invest in plants that promote growth that is desirable.

 Terry Crawford will contact Sewalson Landscaping and have them look at the planters to see if the plants are getting enough water.

 After South Main Street through 1st Avenue South is completed, Mark said they would decide whether to move to Center Street or back to Broadway (South Side), depending upon Badding Construction’s schedule. Mark will talk to Gordy Wiebers.
