You will create a large Zentangle that includes the face of someone that you admire.

• Step 1: Foundation – Step a: Cut only the face out from the large picture you printed out. Do not include the hair or the accessories. – Step b: Draw large sections of the hair, neck, shoulders, hat, and other accessories with your pencil. Be considerate of how the contour and form of this figure looks. Make sure you have at least 12 large sections. Be creative! You can change how this person looks completely! – Step c: Glue down the face after you have figured out where your drawn sections are. – Step d: Trace down your pencil lines with the thicker sharpie. – Step e: Lay down the Zentangle “String” in each section lightly with pencil.

• Step 2: ZENTANGLE TIME! – Start Zentangling! Use the packets for directions on different Zentangles or make up one of your own.  Draw your pattern lightly in pencil first!  Use the ULTRA FINE POINT SHARPIE (Thinner sharpie) and go over the patterns you made.  Use the thicker sharpie for filling in areas and thicker lines.  Make sure you use at least 25 different Zentangle patterns.  Be creative! You can add in single drawings specific to your figure to make the composition work!

• Step 3: Shading – Use your 4B pencil to shade the darker/outer values of some of your sections. – Use your HB pencil to shade the medium values in your sections. – Use your 2H pencil to shade lighter values of the section as you move inward. – Use the kneaded eraser to pick up the areas that look too dark. – Use your blending stump to blend areas smoother.
