Official’s Committee Report January 25, 2013 USATF – CO
During the past two months the Official’s Committee took the following actions: 1. Certification clinics for new officials were conducted at the following sites: Alamosa (Adams State University on November 17, 2013), Colorado Springs (US Air Force Academy on December 14, 2013), and Greeley (University of Northern Colorado on January 5, 2014). A variety of veteran officials attended these clinics to give presentations on the rules as well as practical sessions on officiating events on both the track and field venues. 2. Recertification clinics for returning officials were held at USAFA on December 13, 2013 as well as at CSU on January 4, 2014, and CU on January 18, 2014 prior to home meets at those venues. 3. We currently have 158 certified officials, and we expect applications to be completed for another 6 to 10 officials as a result of the latest clinic in Greeley. Currently we have approximately 20 officials who have yet to renew their USATF membership for 2014. These officials have until March to renew their membership before being suspended by the national committee. 4. The NCAA is working with USATF to come up with a registration and possibly certification for officials who wish to work NCAA national championships at all levels of competition (D1, D2, and D3). Details are still being worked out and an announcement is expected in early February. Costs for the program have also not been finalized, although it is expected to cost $100/year/official. This program will likely be extended to the conference level in the future although again, that has not been finalized.
