Mueller Company (Mueller Co.), the nation's leading manufacturer of water flow control devices for the water industries, has an opening in our Albertville, AL manufacturing facility for a Maintenance Planner.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Maintenance Planner Job Code: Date: 09/30/11 Employing Unit: Mueller Co. - Albertville Department: Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Superintendent Approved By: Immediate Subordinates: Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the person filling this position is to improve the efficiency of Maintenance functions through predetermining the use of craftsman hours, tools, equipment and material, and he/she is responsible for the advance determination of all elements required to complete Maintenance Work Orders assigned to his/her area. This individual will support one of Mueller Co.’s flagship facility’s maintenance department and ensure the continued reliability of the plant’s operations and the continued safety of it’s personnel. % of Essential Functions: Time 1. Reviews, maintains and publishes regular status reports for all work orders in his/her particular area of 20% responsibility to including: - Account number. - Completeness of job description. - Planned versus non-planned work ratio - Crafts required. - Paredo Job types - Chronic issues, equipment rebuild, performance and cost history - Time, resources or physical limitations applicable. - Specifications for work and available equipment. 2. Prepares work orders for verbal emergency requests. 5%

Determines if the job can be performed by the Maintenance Department or if it should be subcontracted. 15% Submits recommendations for subcontracted jobs to the Maintenance Superintendent for authorization. May be responsible to communicate with or manage contracted work performed. 4. Analyzes the job to determine: 15% - The reason for the requested work. Attempt to develop way(s) to prevent recurrence. - The best method for completing the job. - Available budget for the job and expenditures for the department. - The elemental content of the job with rough sketched and listing of tools and material needed. - The number and sequence of craftsmen required. - Where the work will be done. Maximizes the amount of sub-assembly and shot fabrication, utilizing the minimum of on-site labor. - When the equipment or area is available for maintenance. - Determines the sequence for delivering tools, material, and manpower to the site. 5. Ascertains that design material and equipment is correct for the job. Refers to engineering specifications 5% and/or historical performance records. 6. Analyzes performance, backlog, and cost reports. Coordinates with the Maintenance line supervision in 5% developing and installing corrective actions. 7. Studies individual jobs and works closely with engineers and craft supervision in development of 20% improved methods. Knows the available manpower for each craft and develops allocation quotes for using functions. Utilizes either basic standard data or estimated time. 8. Attends weekly meetings with Maintenance supervision in determining work priority schedules and 10% necessary revisions. Schedules each job at the proper time according to priority system. 9. Keeps continuously aware of cost reduction possibilities through improvement in methods, equipment, 5% materials, and manpower. Additional Functions: Within such limits as may be established, propose changes in methods, procedures, and equipment deemed necessary to maintain maximum efficiency in his/her department. May be responsible or participate in the training of employees. May be responsible for the management of waste or hazardous and non-hazardous materials, labeling, MSDS documentation or spill containment associated with maintenance work performed. May be responsible for reliability testing on plant equipment. Performs such other duties as may be assigned from time to time. Scope Data/Working Conditions /Physical Demands:  Must be able to climb and operate on catwalks, ladders, equipment, etc., to adequately inspect, troubleshoot problems and/or review/approve installation of equipment.  Works in a large plant with over 500 employees and an annual sales volume in excess of $150M.  The employee will be working in a plant environment thus exposing him/her to production operations. The employee will be exposed (very briefly) to the following working conditions: Extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, chemicals and metallic particles. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Traits:  Minimum of High School diploma with 2 years technical school and 5 plus years of maintenance experience in a heavy manufacturing environment. Associates degree or Apics Certification with a minimum of three years planning experience in a manufacturing environment or a foundry. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, ERP software and JD Edwards would be a plus.
