The Factory Skatepark The Factory Skatepark is an established social enterprise situated in the Douglas area of the city. It is a member of DSEN giving support to others and accessing assistance where required. They currently offer an indoor skate park which attracts children from 5 years upwards along with a range of youth and community courses, classes and programmes and so there was an opportunity to provide a play area for younger children. Since they own their land and buildings, it was decided to build the new facility, the Fun Factory, a soft play centre, adjacent to the existing facility. An investment of £760K was made with a loan from Scottish Investment Fund £250K as well as a grant of £250K. Additional grant and loans of £225K with their own investment made up the remainder. The Fun Factory opened in December 2012, creating 17 additional jobs and to date there have been approx. 75,000 children and adults through the doors. There are party rooms as well as a sensory area that was developed for children with special needs. The Factory Skatepark offers support to older children and the Fun Factory intends to offer similar support to younger children and their parents. The Factory Skatepark was voted Scottish Social Enterprise of the Year 2012 in part because of the Fun Factory development.

Deaf Links Deaf Links, Tayside Deaf Forum and Dundee Deaf Sports and Social Club are delighted to have been successful in their joint bid for funding to support local older people. The funding is being used for a programme of training, activities and drama workshops to help build the confidence of older Deaf people and enable them to speak out in front of others, understand their opinions are important and be involved in choices about their lives. Funding is included for interpreters for older Deaf people to become involved in Dundee’s Celebrate Age Network. This will help the views of older Deaf people be put forward with other people in Dundee in planning and developing services for older people. The Tayside Deaf Hub will be hosting an Official Celebration to celebrate 2 years of the Hub being open. This event will be held on Saturday 14th September 2013 – contact 201077 if you wish any further information.

Welcome to our newest member – HUSH club. HUSH Club HUSH Club provides support to young people with special needs and their families. They offer support and a safe place to meet. The Club has been running 2 sessions per week, since June 2012, during term time and also holiday clubs during spring, summer and autumn. We normally have between 20 and 30 children per session, more at the holiday times. Our customers are all children with additional needs aged from 0-16yrs and their families. Our main aim is to provide a warm, safe, friendly, non judgemental environment where children with additional needs can come along to a Reg Office The Factory Skatepark,15 Balunie Drive, Dundee, DD4 8PS. Scottish Charity SC043943 Company Registration no. 2728RS drop in centre with their families and start to experience different activities, widening their opportunities, developing their social and communication skills, allowing them to be what they want to be. It will allow them to try and start forming relationships with their peers and start to integrate these children into their community making them feel more accepted instead of feeling isolated. We are looking to be a big part of our community and in time start to recruit staff and creating more jobs for our local people. We always want to be just that little bit more unique than any of our competitors and ensuring that Hush club is a positive experience for every child and family that walk through our doors.
