Session 9: We Are One Body November 27, 2017 Queen of Angels Confirmation Preparation 2017-2018

This session’s objective: - To broaden candidates’ understanding of the meaning of “Church” through exploring Catholic Social Teaching - To provide witnesses of mature Christian life as models for the candidates to follow

This session’s program: 1. Name-tag pick-up; turn in late forms and late Name reflection papers 5 min 6:45 - can discuss questions from homework: suggest #1 on p. 55 2. Icebreaker: Clothing Scavenger Hunt (Led by Rachel) 5 min 6:50 - tables compete to see if they can send forward a person who is wearing or has a particular item of clothing (examples: a yellow t-shirt, a sports team cap, etc.) 3. Opening Prayer (Rachel) sing “Go to the World!” #889 verses 1-2 5 min 6:55 4. The Church Community and Catholic Social Teaching (Rachel) 5 min 7:00 5. Panel Discussion: Social Teaching (moderated by Rachel) 20 min 7:05 - each panelist speaks for 3-4 minutes on their work that relates to CST, take Qs 6. Scripture Breakout: Social Teaching (At Tables) 45 min 7:25 - includes opportunity for reaction to panelists’ statements as part of first question - each table has one of the seven components of Catholic Social Teaching - use Scripture passage and reflection questions (write answers) - create a slogan and use the slogan to create a poster that will encourage others to live/act as we are asked to do through this Social Teaching 7. Groups Share Posters 15 min 8:10 8. Reminders & Closing Prayer sing “We Are Called” #792 5 min 8:25

Homework and Reminders for Candidates: - visit the Confirmation Prep info blog; choose and read/view one of the linked sets of story card and CST 101 video about Catholic Social Teaching in action via CRS - do pp. 35, 36 and 37 in your journal - next class is Parent Night, December 4, 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.! Bring your Parent or their “stunt-double” (a Sponsor or another adult member of your family). Candidates and Parents will work as pairs. Msgr. Jim will be with us for part of the evening. Let your catechist know if it is impossible for your Parent OR a “stunt-double” to come. - bring to Parent Night your folder, your Bible, your book, your journal, any forms or Name papers still out
