During his senior year, he enlisted 26 in the United States Air Force and entered active duty on January 27 15, 1992; and 28 29 Whereas, he tested at Basic Training for a direct duty assignment 30 as a carpentry apprentice and was assigned to Tyndall Air Force 31 Base in Florida; and 32 33 Whereas, Senior Master Sergeant Padgett’s many assignments 34 have included duty at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan; 35 Hurlburt Field in Florida; and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in 36 North Carolina. He has completed tours in Korea, Iraq, 37 Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan, where he served as the squadron 38 superintendent and enlisted leader for 235 deployed Airmen and 39 earned praise from the US FORCESAFGHANISTAN commander 40 for humanitarian efforts while deployed; and 41

[3865] 2 1 Whereas, five different Squadrons in which he served earned the 2 Curtin Award as the best civil engineer squadron in the United 3 States Air Force; and 4 5 Whereas, Senior Master Sergeant Padgett is currently the structural 6 superintendent assigned to the legendary 823d Rapid Engineer 7 Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineer, known 8 and revered throughout the Air Force as the RED HORSE 9 Squadron, at Hurlburt Field, Florida; and 10 11 Whereas, other noteworthy teams he has served have earned the 12 Air Force’s top readiness flight where he served as the squadron’s 13 prime base engineer emergency force manager, the Air Force’s 14 best civil engineer operations flight, and the Air Force’s 15 numberone enlisted programs’ recruiting squadron; and 16 17 Whereas, his military service has been honored three times with 18 the Meritorious Service Medal; two times each with the US Army 19 Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and 20 the Achievement Medal; the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation; two 21 awards for the Air Force Meritorious Unit; and four awards for 22 Outstanding Unit; and 23 24 Whereas, most recently, he was recognized as the SNCO of the 25 Year for the 823d RED HORSE Squadron and the Headquarters 26 9TH Air Force SNCO of the Year; and 27 28 Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates 29 the pride and recognition that Senior Master Sergeant Padgett has 30 brought to his community and to the Palmetto State as the SNCO 31 of the Year for the 823d RED HORSE Squadron and the 32 Headquarters 9TH Air Force SNCO of the Year, and the members 33 wish him continued success in his distinguished military career. 34 Now, therefore, 35 36 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 37 38 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 39 by this resolution, recognize and honor Senior Master Sergeant 40 Rob Padgett and congratulate him for being named the Senior 41 NonCommissioned Officer (SNCO) of the Year for the 823d RED 42 HORSE Squadron and the Headquarters 9TH Air Force SNCO of 43 the Year.
