Presentation of indexing the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti Bulletin – Economic Sciences Series in international scientific databases

1. EconLit (included starting December 2008) EconLit represents The American Economic Association’s electronic bibliography (head office in Pittsburg, USA), which indexes more than thirty years of economics literature from around the world. Compiled and abstracted in an easily searchable format, EconLit is a comprehensive index of journal articles, books, book reviews, collective volume articles, working papers and dissertations. EconLit is available at libraries and on university Web sites throughout the world, licensed from information service providers, which provide search engines, links to libraries’ full-text subscriptions, and other enhancements to assist users in document retrieval (it is also available to AEA members only through EconLit for Members service). The number of journals indexed in EconLit has grown from 182 periodicals in 1969 to over 750 journals today. Journals are selected for inclusion in EconLit on the basis of their economic content, which must be substantial or of equal emphasis in interdisciplinary journals. The number of journals indexed in EconLit has grown from 182 periodicals in 1969 to over 750 journals today. Journals are selected for inclusion in EconLit on the basis of their economic content, which must be substantial or of equal emphasis in interdisciplinary journals. EconLit includes references to articles in economics journals from all over the world, most of which are in English or with English summaries. For records dating from years 1969-78, EconLit includes journal articles only in English or with English summaries. Beginning with 1979 updates, EconLit includes a small number of non-English journals, some of which print articles without English summaries. Non-English articles without English summaries are classified by only one subject descriptor: "Foreign Language Article." Less than 3 percent of the articles in journals are in this category. Until 1992, the only journal articles indexed in EconLit were from journals listed in the Journal of Economic Literature indexes. Since then, additional journals have been indexed and abstracted in EconLit. In 2000, JEL switched from using print to using electronic media to disseminate bibliographic information. The contents of all periodicals indexed in EconLit are now published on JEL on CD on a quarterly basis, but the only fully searchable index is EconLit. EconLit records contain more information than the listings in JEL on CD, including subject, keyword, geographic, and named person descriptors, authors' institutional affiliations; ISSN numbers; and links to publishers' Web sites. Abstracts begin with 1987 updates in EconLit and appear for about one-third of the journal articles until 1989, when abstracts begin to appear for most full journal articles. Journal articles are classified using subject descriptors corresponding to the Journal of Economic Literature classification system. Records also include keywords and geographic descriptors when appropriate. Records for journal articles include the ISSN number of the journal. Authors' institutional affiliations appear in records added since 1990. Libraries and institutions may link EconLit to their holdings of full-text electronic journals. In addition, they may permit links to nonsubsription articles on a pay-per-view basis. The Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti Bulletin – Economic Sciences Series is listed between hyperlinked journal names that connect to the publisher's Web site; clicking on the journal name links to the publisher's Web site for full-text articles or subscription information. A complete list of journals currently indexed in EconLit with links to publishers' URLs can be found at http://www.aeaweb.org/econlit/journal_list.php. 2. DOAJ (included starting January 2009) Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ, head office in Lund, Sweden) represents a service that covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific journals. DOAJ aims to cover all subjects and languages. At the present, there are over 3800 journals in the directory, over 1300 journals being searchable at article level. Open access journals are defined as journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. The aim of the DOAJ is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. DOAJ aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content, being an useful service for the global research and education community. Subject tree includes the following: o Agriculture and Food Sciences o Arts and Architecture o Biology and Life Sciences o Business and Economics o Chemistry o Earth and Environmental Sciences o General Works o Health Sciences o History and Archaeology o Languages and Literatures o Law and Political Science o Mathematics and Statistics o Philosophy and Religion o Physics and Astronomy o Science General o Social Sciences o Technology and Engineering . Selection criteria for DOAJ consist of: Coverage: o Subject: all scientific and scholarly subjects are covered o Types of resource: scientific and scholarly periodicals that publish research or review papers in full text. o Acceptable sources: academic, government, commercial, non-profit private sources are all acceptable. o Level: the target group for included journals should be primarily researchers. o Content: a substantive part of the journal should consist of research papers. All content should be available in full text. o All languages Access: o All content freely available. o Registration: Free user registration online is acceptable. o Open Access without delay (e.g. no embargo period). Quality: o Quality control: for a journal to be included it should exercise quality control on submitted papers through an editor, editorial board and/or a peer-review system. Periodical: o The journal should have an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). The Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti Bulletin – Economic Sciences Series is listed between hyperlinked journal names that connect to the publisher's Web site, in ther field of Business and Economics, visible at: http://www.doaj.org/doaj?func=subject&cpid=18.

3. EBSCO (included starting March 2009) EBSCO Publishing (head office in Ipswich, USA) provides serial content in the form of online bibliographic and full text databases. EBSCO Publishing understands the research needs of libraries and offers sound solutions to those needs at affordable prices. EBSCO's databases are accessible through EBSCOhost, an online system that combines superior content with a user- friendly, customizable interface with unique features for searching and retrieving information. Through the EBSCO SmartLinks technology, EBSCOhost search results provide links to the full text of articles in other EBSCOhost databases and in e-journals on subscription through EBSCO or available from CrossRef member publishers. EBSCOhost databases are the most-used, premium online information resources for tens of thousands of institutions worldwide, representing millions of end-users. EBSCO is recognized as the leader in the database marketplace. According to an Independent Study conducted by Library Journal, “The number one reference source owned by academic (and public) libraries in electronic-only format is EBSCOhost databases.” Not only does EBSCO supply its databases to thousands of universities, biomedical institutions, schools, and other libraries in the United States and Canada, but the company is the leading database provider for libraries outside of North America. At present, EBSCO provides nation-wide access to its databases in more than 70 countries, including developing nations with emerging economies. As a result, publishers and learned societies participating in EBSCO’s databases gain increased exposure for their publications in the world’s most prestigious institutions, and in markets where these publications may not currently have strong penetration. EBSCO asks all of its publisher partners to sign a licensing agreement upon entering into a formal relationship. Once the content has been assigned to a database, EBSCO will contact the publisher about the delivery of content. EBSCO will be incorporating current & future issues onto its products. Where appropriate, back issues of the publication may be discussed. The publishers send their electronic content in pdf and EBSCO Publishing load the content on to the databases as quickly as possible. Once an agreement is signed and a method for delivering content is determined, the publisher’s title is ready to go ‘live’ on the EBSCO products for which it has been selected. Generally, it can take three to nine months from the day a publisher signs an agreement to the day their publication is up and running on EBSCO’s products. A License Agreement has already been signed by both parties: EBSCO and The Petroleum- Gas University of Ploiesti Bulletin – Economic Sciences Series, so that the publication is already processed and included in EBSCOhost databases (http://www.ebscohost.com/titleLists/a9h- journals.htm ).
