Role Profile – Learning Support Assistant: Fixed term until July 3rd 2015 and term time only.

Accountable to: Head of Academy

Primary Purpose: To support learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in class and during non-timetabled activities around college to ensure full access and inclusion. This can include support of learners with challenging behaviour and emotional/behavioural difficulties.

Salary: £17.7k pa pro rata, spot pointed

Overview of responsibilities

This role profile provides an overview of the specific responsibilities for the LSA role.

Work with the Heads of Academy and Cluster coordinators to ensure supported learners’ needs are met and that support is regularly reviewed, evaluated, tracked and recorded in line with college systems.

Excellence

Deliver LS support to raise standards and to improve the quality of the student experience in line with changes to curriculum and government funding.

Participate in relevant staff training and updates to enhance our learners’ experience and achievement.

Ensure the success of the learner journey through appropriate target setting and contributions to On Track and E ILP’s.

Work with Heads of Academy and Learning Support (LS) Cluster Coordinators on the continual quality assurance, review and development of excellent support.

To ensure inclusion and as appropriate to individual identified support needs:

 Act a as a note-taker/scribe  Encourage independence and self help skills  Assist learners moving around/between college sites  Adapt class activities and learning resources including the use of assistive technology  Contribute to team meetings, parents’/carers’ meetings, multi-agency meetings, inductions and any other event as required.  Assist learners with personal care (if required )

Employability

Ensure individual promotion of employability skills and attributes for our students.

Support the Heads of Academies and cluster coordinators in positively promoting learning support across the Cluster and across the college in a visible manner.

Enterprise

Work with curriculum staff to support enterprising activities across the cluster.

Collaboration

Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure support targets are fully embedded.

Collaborate with cluster coordinators to ensure learners’ support needs are met appropriately, on time, reviewed regularly and support is maximised for the benefit of our students.

Collaborate with and support other LS staff in developing innovative LS strategies to enhance the student experience at ncn. Person Specification

Post: Learning Support Assistant A I T Education, Knowledge and Qualifications: 1 Hold or be prepared to work towards a level 3 Teaching Qualification e.g. PTLLS  2 Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy  3 Level 3 qualification in LDD is desirable  4 Knowledge of current thinking and best practice in supporting learners   Experience: 5 Personal experience of working with a range of learners with learning difficulties   and/or disabilities. 6 Proven experience of providing support to learners with learning difficulties and   disabilities 7 Personal experience of working flexibly within a team   Skills, Abilities and Competency: 8 Ability to work in a challenging environment   9 Proven ability to promote Equality & Diversity   10 Ability to collaborate with a cross college network LS staff to contribute to long term  improvements in the quality of LS Personal Qualities 11 Commitment and passion to deliver our organisational touchstones of Excellence,  Enterprise and Employability 12 Uphold and behave in accordance with our organisational values  13 A commitment to and understanding of Safeguarding in the context of FE   14 A respectful and inclusive attitude to learners and colleagues  15 Flexibility to work at any College site / travel, and work additional hours to meet the   requirements of the post. 16 Personal commitment to continuous professional development. 
