CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN/LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE

Policy: Licensing R400.8161 (4): Written procedures for the care of children and staff for each of the following emergencies shall be developed and implemented. Procedure: CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN:  Immediately evacuate area if gas and/or sewer line break, or bomb threat pose imminent danger. Licensing will be contacted if the center is evacuated for any reason.  Staff member will take Child Information Records and phone numbers for emergency 911 personnel. Telephones may cause an explosion. In the event of a bomb threat use a cell phone outside the building if possible.  The classes will proceed to a designated evacuation area.  Staff will take attendance of the children.  Another staff member will check the room including bathrooms and then follow out behind the children.  Adults and children will stay at the designated evacuation area until an “all clear” is issued by emergency personnel.  Staff will notify families by phone, email or text if possible when an “all clear” is issued to reunite with their children.  Individual emergency evacuation plans for children with special needs will be followed using IEP’s and Action Plans as needed. Children without IEP’s will be accommodated as needed.  The Crisis Management Plan must be posted in the classroom and reviewed by staff in September and January LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE:  Staff will contact 911 to report an emergency such as a threatening intruder or another crisis pertinent to the center’s situation such as a custody dispute or missing, lost or abducted child.  Each site will develop a lockdown code system to alert all staff in the building.  The Acting Lead Teacher will: o Collect Child Information Records located ______. o Collect attendance and Sign In/Sign Out sheets located ______. o Lead the children, including any children with special needs/IEP’s/Action Plans, into the designated area and have them sit quietly and take attendance with the help of other staff as needed.  Assistant Teacher #1 will: o Collect the first aid kit and flashlight located ______. o Collect a cordless phone and/or cell phone (turned to silent). Close the blinds and/or cover all windows/openings through which an intruder may view the interior of the room.  Assistant Teacher #2/Classroom Aide will: o Turn off the lights and check that all interior/exterior doors are locked. o Check the classroom for children and direct all children to the designated area.  Remain in lockdown status until notified by someone in authority.  If a lockdown is practiced, staff will notify families using the NMCAA Lockdown Notification Form. If a lockdown occurs, staff will make every effort to notify families by telephone, email or text. If this is not possible, staff will notify families by using the NMCAA Lockdown Notification Form on www.nmcaahs.com . Policy: Licensing: R400.8161 (Technical Assistance): If the crisis management plan includes lock down procedures in which parents will not have access to enter the building, parents should be notified of the plan in advance.

Procedure: On ______we will practice conducted a lockdown. We are required by the State of Michigan Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing to have a crisis management plan, which includes planning for a lockdown. A lockdown is a procedure used by staff to make every effort to keep your child safe during an emergency situation. A lockdown may be put into place for such emergencies as an intruder, bomb threat, or other situations that may arise. Due to the confidential nature of some lockdowns, limited information may be available. Please contact the classroom at ______if you have any further questions.
